Senior Backend Engineer – Java & Distributed Systems

RE Partners is hiring a Senior Java Software Engineer for a long-term technology programme with a leading global bank. The role focuses on high-throughput Java services, concurrency, messaging and production performance. Banking experience is not required; relevant experience may come from any complex, data-intensive environment.
The role
Develop scalable Java backend services
Solve concurrency and multithreading challenges
Build event-driven solutions using Kafka or similar technologies
Improve application performance, resilience and throughput
Troubleshoot JVM and production issues
Contribute to technical design decisions
What we’re looking for
Strong commercial Java experience
Experience with distributed or high-throughput systems
Good knowledge of concurrency, multithreading and JVM fundamentals
Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, Solace, IBM MQ or similar
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes-based environments
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
Professional working English
Experience with Oracle, MongoDB, OpenShift, Java profiling or financial systems would be beneficial but is not essential.
