Software Engineer (Contract position)

*This is a fully remote position with a 6-month contract duration.
We're on the lookout for a Mid-Level Full-Stack Software Engineer who's excited about shipping real features to real users, keeping mature systems healthy, and helping build the next generation of our guest experience. If you enjoy moving between Ruby on Rails and Vue 3 — and you like owning a ticket end to end — this might be your next big move.
This role is fully remote and based in the Philippines, engaged as a direct contractor. You'll work with a small, international team headquartered in Tokyo (business-level English is all you need), with a few hours of daily overlap with Japan time.
Software products at Section L
We are building a suite of applications that fulfill different needs of our guests throughout their stay with us. This includes:
A check-in app that allows guests to have a contactless and fuss-free arrival experience.
A guest experience/loyalty app that provides everything guests will need during their stay and allow them to connect with our front desk staff, like-minded travelers, local neighbors and have a memorable experience.
An admin app that ties everything together for Section L staff to better manage information and fulfill guests' needs.
Integration with a 3rd party Property Management System that allows us to connect our applications to the reservations.
We're also innovating new solutions tailored to our upcoming hotel projects and the unique needs of different teams across the company.

🌟 What You'll Be Doing
This role has two sides to it, and you'll move between them as priorities shift:
Keeping our products healthy
Shipping fixes that matter — squashing bugs in live guest-facing apps and keeping our staff unblocked.
Keeping integrations reliable — our smart locks and Property Management System sync are how guests get into their rooms, so this work counts.
Paying down tech debt and keeping dependencies, runtimes, and security tooling current.
Delivering feature tickets across the Rails API and our Vue 3 apps.
Building what's next
Building new features from scratch on new projects and product initiatives as they come up.
Contributing to our guest experience revamp — a rethink of the whole digital guest journey.
Working directly with our Engineering Manager and Product Manager to turn ideas into shipped software.
🛠 What You Bring
3–5 years of professional full-stack engineering experience.
Solid Ruby on Rails — REST APIs, PostgreSQL, background jobs.
Solid Vue 3 (Composition API) and modern JavaScript.
Comfortable both in a mature codebase you didn't write and building something new from an empty folder.
A good Git workflow — branches, pull requests, and giving/taking code review well.
Business-level English (that's our working language) and strong async communication — you'll be remote, so writing things down clearly matters.
Bonus points for TypeScript + AWS Lambda, Terraform, third-party API integrations, or hospitality/travel domain experience.
You don't need to be an architect — technical direction comes from our Engineering Manager. You do need to be someone who can pick up a well-defined piece of work and carry it to done with light oversight.

📄 The Engagement
Direct contractor engagement with Section L — full-time equivalent.
6-month rolling contract, reviewed before each renewal against delivery and fit.
Fully remote from the Philippines, with meaningful daily overlap with Tokyo business hours (JST).
Rate: ¥250,000 – ¥350,000 per month, depending on demonstrated Rails and Vue depth.
