We're building a matchmaking app with features like selfie verification and liveness checks, animations, real-time messaging, matching, and push notifications, and we're targeting a February 14, 2027 launch. We're looking for a practical, detail-oriented QA engineer to help us ship a polished, reliable product.
We're a small team, and you'll be our primary QA person. This part-time freelance role combines hands-on manual/exploratory testing with AI-assisted or automated testing where it improves coverage. You do not need to build a large automation framework from scratch.
What You'll Do
Test our iOS and Android app across devices, OS versions, network conditions, and application states, identify bugs and UI inconsistencies, document issues clearly in Linear, and verify fixes. You'll work closely with our developers to ensure every flow works smoothly, including:
Onboarding, account creation, profiles, and matching
Real-time messaging (including disconnect/reconnect behavior)
Selfie verification and liveness checks
Animations and transitions across devices
Push notifications, camera/photo permissions, and notification flows
Blocking, reporting, and account deletion
Poor/changing connectivity, backgrounding, interrupted sessions, and repeated actions
Basic accessibility, screen-size, keyboard, and UI/UX consistency checks
Expected Deliverables
Create and maintain a practical regression checklist covering critical user journeys, combining human checks with AI-assisted or automated coverage where useful
Document actionable bugs directly in Linear with reproduction steps, expected vs. actual behavior, build/version, device/OS details, severity, and screenshots or screen recordings
Smoke-test builds, verify fixes, run regression, and provide concise summaries of release-blocking issues or significant risks
Contract Period
October 2026 – February 14, 2027
Fixed-term freelance contract with potential extension for post-launch support.
October–November 2026: QA Foundation & Core Testing (~15–20 hrs/week)
Core user journeys, device compatibility, selfie verification, messaging, animation testing, exploratory testing, and initial regression coverage.
December 2026–January 2027: Continuous QA & Regression (~10–15 hrs/week)
Testing ongoing changes, retesting fixes, catching regressions, maintaining coverage, and steady exploratory testing.
February 1–14, 2027: Pre-Launch Hardening (~20–25 hrs/week)
Final regression testing and realistic edge-case scenarios including poor connectivity, interrupted sessions, repeated actions, notifications, and app backgrounding/resuming.
Weekly schedules will be confirmed at least one week in advance.
Compensation
HK$250/hour (negotiable based on experience). Weekly hours will vary by phase as outlined above and will be agreed in advance. Additional hours require prior approval. Invoices are submitted monthly. No equipment reimbursement; you provide your own devices.
Timezone & Communication
We hold a weekly sync meeting every Monday at 10:00 AM HKT (UTC+8). Attendance is required; all other working hours are flexible. During active testing periods, please respond to project messages within one business day.
Devices & Testing Setup
You should have access to your own physical devices (at least one iPhone and one Android phone). We'll provide access to emulators and/or device farms for broader coverage. We'll also provide test accounts, approved test images/data, and guidance for handling sensitive information. You won't need to use your personal profile or your own face for liveness checks.
What We're Looking For
Approximately 2+ years of hands-on mobile QA/testing experience, with confidence testing both iOS and Android
Strong exploratory testing skills and a good eye for UI and behavioral details
Clear, reproducible bug reports and experience with Linear, Jira, GitHub Issues, or a similar tracker
Familiarity with different screen sizes, OS versions, permissions, and network conditions
Comfortable using or learning AI-assisted QA/automation tools and working independently in a small startup
Nice to have: dating/social apps, real-time messaging, selfie/liveness, API testing, device farms, or mobile automation (e.g. Maestro, Appium, Detox)
