## About the Role
Komatsu Mining Technology Solutions is seeking a Software Engineer I to design, build, and support mission-critical software services that power Komatsu's automation products. This entry-level role focuses on implementing well-scoped software stories within distributed autonomous services, translating defined requirements into maintainable code and automated tests with guidance from senior engineers.
The Software Engineer I will collaborate with product, QA, and field teams to deliver incremental improvements, follow established design and coding standards, and develop proficiency in the product domain, development tools, and operational practices.
## Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and support mission-critical software services supporting Komatsu automation products.
* Implement well-scoped Stories within distributed autonomous services.
* Translate defined requirements into maintainable, production-quality code.
* Develop and maintain automated tests, primarily at the unit level, with guided exposure to integration testing and CI pipelines.
* Follow established software design, coding, security, and data-handling standards.
* Participate in core Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, including source control, code reviews, build processes, and automated testing.
* Work with product, QA, and field teams to deliver incremental product improvements.
* Diagnose software issues using logs and metrics and follow established operational practices when supporting production services.
* Apply secure coding and established security and privacy practices.
* Communicate clearly, seek feedback early, and collaborate effectively with team members.
* Build knowledge of the product domain, development tooling, and operational practices.
## Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 0–2 years of professional software development experience. Internships, co-ops, and relevant project experience may be considered.
* Demonstrated programming ability in at least one modern programming language.
* Working knowledge of object-oriented programming fundamentals, basic design patterns, and clean code practices.
* Familiarity with REST APIs, including consuming and implementing simple endpoints with guidance.
* Exposure to SDLC practices such as coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, and automated testing.
* Ability to write and maintain automated tests, primarily at the unit level.
* Basic familiarity with diagnosing issues using logs and metrics.
* Working understanding of secure coding concepts and data-handling expectations.
* Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to seek feedback and learn quickly in a team environment.

* Experience with event-driven microservices.
* Familiarity with cloud-native deployment patterns and containerization.
