About the Role
We are looking for a Full Stack Instructor / SDE who enjoys both building software and helping others understand how it works.
This is a hybrid engineering and teaching role. The ideal candidate will bring strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience building web applications, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to aspiring engineers.
The role will involve teaching and mentoring students in Full Stack Development while also contributing to internal tools, prototypes, AI-powered applications, and other technical initiatives at SST.
The ideal candidate is an Engineer-Educator who understands not just how technologies work, but why they work, and can help students develop the mindset and problem-solving skills required to become strong software engineers.
What You Will Do / Responsibilities
Teaching & Delivery
Conduct instructor-led sessions on Full Stack Development.
Teach concepts across JavaScript, HTML/CSS, React, Node.js, Express.js, and databases.
Conduct live coding, problem-solving, debugging, and doubt-solving sessions.
Guide students through practical projects and real-world application development.
Mentor students on software engineering practices and technical problem-solving.
Conduct technical evaluations, interviews, and project reviews where required.
Topics Covered
The curriculum broadly covers JavaScript and web fundamentals, frontend development with React, backend development using Node.js and Express.js, REST APIs, databases and MongoDB, application architecture, debugging, and modern software engineering practices.
The role also involves introducing students to GenAI and AI application development, including LLM APIs, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, RAG, tool calling, and building AI-powered applications.
Student Engagement & Mentorship
Help students develop strong programming and software engineering fundamentals.
Teach students how to approach problems systematically rather than simply providing solutions.
Encourage students to reason independently, ask the right questions, and debug effectively.
Guide students on writing maintainable code and building applications independently.
Help students develop good practices around Git/GitHub, documentation, debugging, and using developer tools.
Mentor students on using AI tools effectively while understanding and validating AI-generated code.
Support students with technical interviews and software engineering preparation.
Curriculum and Academic Development
Create coding exercises, projects, assignments, and practical learning experiences.
Improve existing course content based on student learning outcomes and industry practices.
Introduce modern software engineering tools, practices, and technologies into the curriculum.
Explore opportunities to incorporate GenAI and AI-powered development into student learning experiences.
Collaborate with the academic team to maintain a high bar for technical rigor and practical learning.
Engineering
Build internal tools, prototypes, and developer utilities for SST.
Experiment with AI-powered applications and learning tools.
Contribute to educational platforms and other technical initiatives.
Collaborate with engineering and product teams where required.
Review code and contribute to the technical ecosystem at SST.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Equivalent practical experience may also be considered.
Experience
1–2 years of relevant software development / SDE experience.
Hands-on experience building web applications using technologies such as JavaScript, React, Node.js, Express.js, and databases.
Experience working with APIs, debugging, Git/GitHub, and software development workflows.
Prior teaching, mentoring, technical content creation, coding community, or EdTech experience is strongly preferred.
A candidate with strong engineering fundamentals and meaningful teaching or mentoring experience may be a stronger fit than someone with more development experience but limited communication or mentoring ability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong fundamentals in JavaScript and web development.
Good understanding of asynchronous programming, Promises, Async/Await, the Event Loop, browser fundamentals, and APIs.
Strong hands-on knowledge of React and modern frontend development.
Good understanding of Node.js, Express.js, REST APIs, authentication, middleware, and backend development.
Understanding of MongoDB / NoSQL databases, data modelling, queries, aggregation, and indexing.
Strong debugging and problem-solving ability.
Ability to write clean, maintainable code and understand engineering trade-offs.
Good understanding of modern development workflows using Git/GitHub.
Familiarity with GenAI and AI application development, including LLM APIs, prompting, embeddings, RAG, and vector databases.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, structured, and engaging manner.
Strong communication, classroom management, and presentation skills.
High ownership, curiosity, and willingness to continuously learn.
