Design Lead – Children’s Products & Brand
Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan
Experience: 5+ Years
Employment Type: Full-Time, in person
Function: Design
About Kidureka
Kidureka is a children’s learning and play brand creating thoughtfully designed books, toys and activity products for children aged 3+. We believe fun is learning—and build products that combine creativity, play and meaningful learning experiences. Our focus is on creating high-quality, contemporary and engaging products that children love to explore and parents feel good about bringing home.
About the Role
We are looking for a Design Lead to shape the visual world of Kidureka across our books, toys, activity kits and learning products.
This is a design-first role. You will be responsible for creating and evolving the design language across our product portfolio—from children's books and comics to toys, kits, packaging and other physical learning experiences.
We are looking for someone who combines strong design ability with a deep understanding of children: how they see, learn, interact and engage with products, and how parents evaluate and choose them.
The ideal candidate understands that designing for children requires more than making something colourful or attractive. It requires a strong understanding of child behaviour, education, storytelling, usability, visual communication and premium product design.
What You Will Do1. Design Books & Publications
Lead the design of children's books, storybooks, activity books, comics and educational publications.
Develop visual concepts, page systems, covers, typography, layouts and illustration direction.
Create age-appropriate visual languages for different categories and age groups.
Develop cohesive design systems for book series and collections.
Work closely with writers, illustrators, editors and content teams.
Take books from concept → design → artwork → production → final product.
2. Design Toys, Kits & Learning Products
Lead the visual and graphic design of toys, games, activity kits and learning products.
Develop the visual language across the entire product—including components, cards, boards, packaging, instructions and supporting materials.
Think deeply about how a child sees, understands, interacts with and uses a product.
Balance visual appeal with usability, age appropriateness and manufacturing constraints.
Work with product and production teams to ensure the final physical product reflects the creative intent.
3. Shape Kidureka’s Design Language
Define and evolve the overall visual language of Kidureka.
Establish principles for colour, typography, illustration, characters, graphics, layouts, icons and packaging.
Create a recognizable and cohesive visual identity across different product categories.
Build systems that allow the brand to scale while ensuring every product still feels fresh and distinctive.
Ensure Kidureka consistently feels contemporary, premium, playful and child-centric.
4. Creative Direction & Design Leadership
Set creative direction for new products and product categories.
Lead and guide designers, illustrators and external creative partners.
Review work and maintain a high bar for design quality and execution.
Push teams towards stronger concepts rather than simply better-looking execution.
Develop a culture of research, experimentation and thoughtful design.
The Design Lens We Expect
You should be able to design simultaneously for:
Children — What catches their attention? What do they understand? What makes them curious? What makes them want to engage?
Parents — What communicates quality, trust, educational value and premium experience?
The Product — Is it intuitive, usable, age-appropriate and genuinely enjoyable?
The Brand — Does it feel recognisably Kidureka and contribute to a distinctive visual world?
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with 5+ years of professional experience, with significant experience working on children’s products.
Your background could be in:
Children’s publishing
Toys & games
Educational / learning products
Children’s brands
Children's media
D2C consumer products
EdTech / education
Product design
Communication / visual design
Strong Preference
Experience in children’s publishing is highly preferred.
Someone who has already worked on books, comics, activity products, educational kits or children's physical products and understands how to take these products through development and production will be a strong fit.
Educational Background
A degree or formal training in Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Communication, Architecture or a related creative discipline is preferred. Candidates from institutions such as NID, NIFT, IIT, Srishti, SPA, CEPT or other strong design / architecture institutions would be preferred.
We are also open to candidates with a non-traditional design journey—for example, someone who started in technology, engineering or another discipline and later moved into design, architecture or creative practice, provided they have built a strong body of work and have substantial experience designing for children. Portfolio and relevant experience will matter more than the exact degree.
What We’re Looking For Beyond Design
The person should have a genuine interest in and understanding of children.
You should ideally have exposure to:
How children learn and interact with products
Age-appropriate communication
Educational content and learning experiences
Children's storytelling and visual culture
Parent expectations and purchase behaviour
Premium children's products
Publishing and physical product production
We are looking for someone who brings together love for design + understanding of children + sensitivity to how children learn and engage.
Your Portfolio
Your portfolio should demonstrate real children's product work, not only marketing creatives.
We would particularly like to see:
Children’s Books · Comics · Activity Books · Toys · Games · Learning Kits · Educational Products · Packaging · Illustration / Art Direction · Brand / Visual Systems
We want to understand your design thinking, not just the final visuals—how you researched, conceptualised, developed and refined the product.
What Would Make You Stand Out
A designer with 5+ years of experience specifically in the children's category, particularly someone who has worked across publishing + toys / learning products, will stand out strongly.
Someone who can comfortably move between designing a 40-page children's book, directing a comic series, developing the visual system for a toy, and shaping the larger Kidureka design language is exactly the kind of person we are looking for.
In One Line
We’re looking for a designer who understands children as deeply as they understand design—and can turn that understanding into books, toys and learning products that feel distinctive, premium and genuinely engaging.
