Role Description The Laptop Chip Level Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai/Bangalore/Pune/Mumbai/Hyderabad/Kolkata. This position involves diagnosing and repairing laptops at the motherboard and chip level, including component-level troubleshooting, soldering, and replacement of ICs and other electronic parts. The engineer will perform systematic fault analysis, use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify hardware issues, and ensure timely, high-quality repairs. Daily tasks include testing and validating repaired systems, maintaining service records, coordinating with front-office staff for customer updates, and adhering to safety and ESD procedures. The role may also involve advising on parts requirements, supporting junior technicians, and contributing to continuous improvement of service processes.
Qualifications
Strong chip-level hardware troubleshooting skills for laptop motherboards, including diagnosis of power, display, and connectivity issues.
Proficiency in soldering and rework techniques, including use of hot air stations, BGA rework equipment, and precision tools for component replacement.
Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams and schematics, and use diagnostic instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
Solid understanding of electronics fundamentals, including DC/AC circuits, voltage regulation, signal tracing, and common laptop hardware architectures.
Experience in repairing and servicing a wide range of laptop brands and models, including handling motherboards, RAM, storage devices, and peripheral components.
Attention to detail with strong documentation habits for recording faults, repair steps, and part usage in service management systems.
Good communication skills to coordinate with service advisors, explain technical issues in simple terms, and support a collaborative team environment.
Ability to work in a fast-paced service center setting, manage multiple repair jobs, and meet turnaround time and quality targets.
Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Hardware, or related field; relevant technical certifications in hardware repair are an advantage.
Prior experience as a laptop chip-level or motherboard repair engineer is strongly preferred; exposure to desktop and peripheral repair is a plus.
