Firmware Engineer

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Switch Firmware Developer with strong expertise in C++ and computer networking to design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware for enterprise-grade network switches. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of networking protocols, switching technologies, embedded systems, and software development practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop switch firmware components using C++.
- Implement and enhance Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking features.
- Work on switching protocols such as VLAN, STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, ARP, and Ethernet.
- Analyze and troubleshoot firmware, software, and networking issues.
- Develop efficient, reliable, and scalable code for network switching platforms.
- Debug issues using tools such as GDB, logs, core dumps, and packet captures.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, system testing, and product teams.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation.
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, and system-level validation.
- Support defect analysis, root-cause investigation, and resolution throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development, testing, and automation processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in C++ software or firmware development.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and multithreading.
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals and TCP/IP protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching concepts.
- Knowledge of VLAN, STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, ARP, IPv4/IPv6, and Ethernet technologies.
- Experience working in Linux or embedded Linux environments.
- Proficiency in debugging complex software and networking issues.
- Experience with Git or other source-control systems.
- Good understanding of software development and testing methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing firmware for network switches, routers, or embedded networking platforms.
- Knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, or IS-IS.
- Familiarity with multicast, QoS, ACL, and forwarding technologies.
- Experience with hardware-software integration and SDK-based development.
- Knowledge of packet-processing pipelines, ASICs, or network processors.
- Experience with Python-based automation and test frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, code quality tools, and automated testing frameworks.
