Vice President of Project Management
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-oriented Vice President of Project Management to lead the company's global Project Management organization and drive successful execution of strategic initiatives, complex programs, and enterprise-wide projects.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) or Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the VP of Project Management will translate corporate objectives into structured project portfolios, scalable execution frameworks, measurable delivery plans, and strong operational outcomes.
The VP will oversee Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management, PMO Governance, Resource Planning, Budget Management, Risk Management, Project Performance, and Continuous Improvement while partnering closely with Executive Leadership, Engineering, Product, Operations, Finance, Sales, and other business functions.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Management Strategy
Develop and execute the company's global Project Management strategy.
Establish project management methodologies, standards, processes, and governance frameworks.
Translate corporate objectives into strategic project priorities and execution plans.
Establish project planning, delivery, reporting, and performance management standards.
Continuously improve project management capabilities and organizational maturity.
2. Strategic Project & Program Management
Lead complex, high-impact, and cross-functional projects and programs.
Develop project objectives, milestones, deliverables, timelines, and success metrics.
Ensure strategic initiatives remain aligned with company priorities and business objectives.
Monitor project progress, dependencies, resource requirements, and delivery risks.
Resolve project challenges and ensure timely and successful completion of critical initiatives.
3. PMO Leadership & Governance
Build and lead a scalable Project Management Office (PMO).
Establish project governance structures, approval processes, and management standards.
Develop project portfolio reporting and executive dashboards.
Establish project review meetings, stage-gate processes, and escalation procedures.
Ensure consistent project management practices across business units and geographic regions.
4. Resource & Budget Management
Develop project resource plans and capacity models.
Allocate personnel, budgets, technology, and other resources across project portfolios.
Partner with Finance to establish project budgets and financial controls.
Monitor project costs, resource utilization, and budget performance.
Optimize resource allocation based on business priorities and project requirements.
5. Risk & Issue Management
Establish enterprise project risk management frameworks.
Identify project, operational, financial, technical, and execution risks.
Develop mitigation and contingency plans for high-impact risks.
Monitor project issues, dependencies, and critical decisions.
Escalate significant risks and issues to Executive Leadership when appropriate.
6. Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with Executive Leadership to execute strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Technology, Operations, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and other functional teams.
Establish clear stakeholder communication and accountability structures.
Facilitate cross-functional decision-making and issue resolution.
Ensure project teams remain aligned with organizational objectives and priorities.
7. Project Performance & Continuous Improvement
Establish project performance metrics, KPIs, and reporting systems.
Monitor project delivery, quality, cost, schedule, and business outcomes.
Conduct project performance reviews and post-project evaluations.
Identify opportunities to improve project execution, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives across the Project Management organization.
8. Team Leadership & Organizational Development
Recruit, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Program Managers, Portfolio Managers, and PMO professionals.
Build a high-performing global Project Management organization.
Establish career paths, competency frameworks, and leadership development programs.
Develop performance management and professional development processes.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, execution excellence, and continuous improvement.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Operations, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
MBA or Master's degree preferred.
Experience
20+ years of progressive experience in Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management, Operations, or related functions.
10+ years of senior leadership experience managing Project Management or PMO organizations.
Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional, and high-value projects.
Experience leading global or multi-regional project portfolios.
Strong experience with project governance, budgeting, resource planning, risk management, and performance management.
Demonstrated success building and scaling PMO organizations and project management processes.
Strong ability to communicate with C-suite executives and senior stakeholders.
