ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to join the Estimating Department in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the preparation of budget estimates based on site visits, conceptual information, and hard bids, focusing on the development of bid strategies and general trade estimates. Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator and supported by an Estimating Coordinator, you will take full ownership of estimates from inception to completion while providing support services during construction phases.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Understands and interprets, with accuracy, project blueprints and conceptual drawings, bidding specifications, scope descriptions, contracts, and related documents.
- Prepares estimates, proposals, accompanying cost information and schedules
- Operates a computerized bidding system with precision and speed.
- Addresses bid requests, estimates and proposals in a prompt, professional and courteous manner.
- Determines duration of project, dollar value, reviews budget prior to submission
- Reviews subcontractor lists and monitors progress of bid solicitation including ensuring adequate subcontractor coverage on bid day
- Coordinates and Leads Project Turn-over meetings, providing project teams with all background information for a successful completion and attends Pre-Bid meetings
- Evaluates bids from vendors and subcontractors for completeness
- Develop Sub Contractor list for Bid soliciting
- Responsible for entire Bid process from inception to Bid submission
- Provides timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups, such as Accounting, Operations, Human Resources, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
Must Have:
- Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction management or relevant experience in lieu of education.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in MS office, required.
- Time Management & Multitasking: Time management and multitask skill to work on 4-5 projects at the same time.
- Work Environment: Professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

- Preferred Software: Timberline estimating software, preferred.
- Supervisory Responsibility: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Travel: Travel percent- 0-10%, depending on projects.
