Lead Backend Developer

2. About the Opportunity:
The Lead Backend Developer leads the design, development, and operation of foundational backend platforms and shared services that support other engineering teams. This role is essential in building high-throughput platform capabilities ensuring reliable, low-latency handling of traffic and data processing, thereby enhancing overall engineering effectiveness.
3. Responsibilities:
Design and build backend platform capabilities including request routing, traffic management, data fan-out, caching, asynchronous job execution, and event processing.
Operate foundational platforms that support multiple engineering teams.
Lead multi-quarter platform initiatives to raise engineering standards.
Prioritize internal developer experience to facilitate seamless product delivery.
Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering culture through code and design reviews.
Manage stakeholders and make technical decisions regarding platform development.
4. Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Six or more years of professional experience in backend or platform engineering.
Proven experience building and operating internal platforms or shared services.
Expertise in designing distributed systems with attention to consistency, availability, latency, and failure modes.
Advanced proficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++.
In-depth understanding of high-throughput messaging and event-driven architectures using tools like Kafka, Pulsar, or NATS.
Strong knowledge of diverse data storage systems including relational, key-value, document, and search.
Experience leading platform projects across teams, including stakeholder management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Salary range: $80,000 to $95,000 annually.
