Manager, Systems Engineering
Our client is seeking a hands-on Manager of Systems Engineering to lead a high-performing infrastructure team and drive reliable, scalable technology services. This role combines people leadership, technical oversight, project delivery, and operational planning across server, storage, connectivity, and cloud-forward environments.
Job Type: Contract-to-hire
Location: San Diego, CA (Remote with very limited onsite days)
Compensation: This job is expected to pay about $72 - 92/hr during the contract period, with conversion compensation $160,000-185,000

What You’ll Do:
Lead and develop the System Engineering and Storage technical staff, including staffing, performance reviews, cross-training, team building, and productivity management.
Oversee the planning, design, engineering, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server, storage, connectivity, and data transport environments.
Partner with business stakeholders to assess technology needs and coordinate multiple infrastructure projects, implementations, and ongoing operational work.
Establish and maintain technical protocols, procedures, capacity plans, change management practices, and reliable client accessibility.
Manage capital and operating budgets while promoting quality customer service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What Gets You the Job:
10+ years of experience supporting multiple network infrastructure technologies and tools, including servers and storage.
5+ years of supervisory experience leading technical staff and managing multiple projects.
Cloud-forward infrastructure experience and strong knowledge of systems engineering, network management, project management, personnel management, and budgeting.
Three or more years in a healthcare network environment and large-scale projects strongly preferred; experience supporting a 24/7 environment is valued.
Preferred: Experience managing endpoint and VDI/BDI environments, Cisco UCS or comparable server infrastructure, and Palo Alto technologies; PMP or Cisco certifications are a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
