JOB DESCRIPTION
Insight Global is seeking a Platform Engineer to join a leading retail client in Vancouver, BC. This individual will support the development and evolution of core business capabilities across the organization's digital commerce ecosystem, primarily within the Order, Guest, and Product domains. Working within a highly collaborative Agile environment, the Platform Engineer will focus on backend development, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging patterns while helping extend existing platform capabilities into new international markets, including Korea. This role is focused less on building entirely new systems and more on understanding existing platforms, business workflows, and domain services, then making strategic enhancements that improve scalability, maintainability, and business value. The team is also actively exploring opportunities to leverage AI to improve existing systems and engineering workflows. The ideal candidate will bring strong backend engineering experience, curiosity about emerging technologies, and the ability to identify practical opportunities where AI can enhance business capabilities and developer productivity.
Responsibilities
• Design, build, and support backend services and business logic supporting Order, Guest, and Product domains
• Develop and enhance asynchronous, event-driven systems utilizing publish-subscribe messaging patterns
• Modify and extend existing platform capabilities to support international market expansions, including Korea
• Learn complex existing systems and identify opportunities for strategic improvements and modernization
• Partner with product and engineering teams to evolve existing business capabilities and workflows
• Evaluate opportunities to leverage AI technologies, frameworks, and AI-assisted development practices to improve existing systems and engineering processes
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture and implementation decisions
• Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services supporting critical business functions
• Develop and maintain automated testing strategies and software quality practices
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable long-term solutions
• Contribute to modernization initiatives and continuous platform improvements
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and support continuous delivery practices
• Support ongoing platform maintenance, enhancements, and feature development efforts
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• 7+ years of software engineering experience within an Agile/Scrum environment • Strong hands-on development experience with C#/.NET
• Experience working with AI assisted Dev tools (such as Kiro / Cursor) to optimize systems and processes
• Experience leveraging AI frameworks, AI-assisted development tools, Copilot tools, or emerging engineering methodologies
• Experience building and supporting backend services and distributed systems
• Experience with asynchronous messaging, event-driven architectures, and publish-subscribe patterns
• Experience designing and consuming APIs in cloud-based environments
• Experience with AWS as a cloud provider
• Experience with microservices architecture and modern software development practices
• Experience with databases, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production support
• Ability to learn complex existing systems and make thoughtful enhancements to established architectures
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Experience supporting Order, Guest, Product, Customer, Commerce, or similar business domains • Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar messaging/event-streaming technologies
• Experience modernizing legacy applications or evolving existing platform architectures
• Experience identifying opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into existing products, workflows, or engineering processes
• Experience supporting international market launches, localization initiatives, or multi-region platform capabilities
• Platform engineering, developer enablement, or internal tooling experience
• Technical leadership or mentorship experience
