Program Overview
We are looking for a motivated Product Design & UI/UX Engineering Intern who wants to gain practical experience designing real-world software products.
This is not purely a graphic design role. We are looking for someone interested in understanding users, business processes, software systems, and how thoughtful product design can simplify complex workflows.
Duration: 6-month paid internship program
Compensation: LKR 30,000 – 50,000 monthly allowance
Experience: Previous professional or commercial experience is not required
Location & Schedule
Location: Fully remote, based in Sri Lanka
Equipment: Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and reliable internet connection
Hours & Schedule: Flexible hours - approximately 8 hours/day
Availability: Standard Sri Lanka daytime hours, as well as evening hours
Timezone Overlap: Regular collaboration with our Australian-based team
Weekends: Weekend work is not standard practice, although occasional meetings or tasks may be required.
The Role & Potential Work
During the internship, you will work closely with software engineers, AI engineers, and business stakeholders to design and improve digital products. You may gain hands-on experience with:
Understanding business problems and translating them into digital experiences.
Mapping user journeys, workflows, and information architecture.
Creating wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity interfaces.
Designing responsive web and mobile application experiences.
Building and maintaining design systems, reusable components and patterns.
Conducting basic user research, usability reviews, and design validation.
Improving existing products based on user feedback and operational requirements
Collaborating directly with developers during implementation.
Preparing clear specifications and developer handoffs.
Reviewing implemented interfaces and ensuring consistent intent of experiences.
Designing experiences involving Artificial Intelligence, automation, AI agents, document processing, and human-in-the-loop validation.
Exploring how AI-assisted design and prototyping tools can accelerate the product development process.
Core Requirements
Candidates should be studying or have recently completed qualifications in areas such as:
User Experience Design / User Interface Design /Product Design
Human-Computer Interaction / Information Technology
Software Engineering / Computer Science
Interactive Media / Digital Media / Multimedia
You should have a foundational understanding of:
UI and UX design principles.
User-centered design.
Wireframing and prototyping.
Responsive interface design.
Visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, and layout.
Figma or a comparable interface design/prototyping tool.
Components and reusable design patterns.
Basic usability and accessibility principles.
Advantageous Skills
Experience in any of the following will be highly regarded:
Figma Auto Layout, Components, Variables, and Design Systems.
Interactive prototyping.
UX research and usability testing.
Dashboard and enterprise application design.
Mobile application design.
HTML and CSS fundamentals.
Understanding of React or modern frontend development concepts.
Familiarity with APIs, databases, and how software applications operate.
AI-assisted design and development tools (Claude Design, Figma Make, etc.).
Designing conversational interfaces or AI-powered applications.
Motion design or micro-interactions.
GitHub, developer workflows, or working with software engineering teams.
You do not need to be a software developer, but you should be interested in understanding how the products you design are actually built.

Can research unfamiliar industries, users, and workflows independently.
Can accept feedback, iterate quickly, and explain their decisions clearly.
Use AI tools to improve productivity without relying on them blindly.
Are curious about how AI will change software interfaces and user experiences.
Understand that good product design balances user needs, business requirements, and technical feasibility.
We value problem-solving ability and product thinking more than polished visuals alone.
Portfolio Expectations
Candidates should ideally provide a portfolio, Figma project, Behance profile, personal website, or similar examples of their work. We are especially interested in seeing:
How you identified the problem.
Your user flow or thought process.
Wireframes or early concepts.
Your final designs.
Your rationale behind design decisions.
How your solution improved the user experience.
University assignments are acceptable. Personal projects and independently developed concepts are also highly encouraged.
