Background Information
Dermatetics Academy is a newly established training provider specialising in Level 7 education in aesthetics. The academy has been founded by four directors, comprising pharmacists and doctors, who collectively bring extensive clinical, academic, and professional expertise in healthcare and aesthetics practice.
The successful Internal Quality Assurer will operate on a self-employed, pro-rata basis. This role offers a high degree of flexibility and is particularly suited to individuals seeking freelance opportunities alongside existing professional commitments.
Dermatetics Academy intends to enrol four cohorts annually, each comprising approximately 20 to 24 learners. Cohorts will commence at three-month intervals, ensuring a structured and continuous programme delivery cycle throughout the year.
Learners will engage in both theoretical instruction and practical, hands-on training. Practical components will be delivered using volunteer models, enabling learners to develop and demonstrate competence within a supervised clinical training environment.
The academy will adhere to the training pathway designed by VTCT Skills, ensuring that programme delivery, assessment, and internal quality assurance processes align with awarding body requirements and recognised standards. Dermatetics Academy is committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience, maintaining robust internal quality systems, and ensuring that learner achievement is supported by fair, consistent, and compliant assessment practices.
Job Purpose
We are seeking to appoint a highly competent and committed Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) who should also have certificate in Level 7 aesthetics, to support the delivery and quality assurance of our Level 7 Aesthetics Training Programme. The postholder will be responsible for upholding rigorous internal quality assurance standards across the academy, ensuring that learner work is assessed fairly, consistently, and in accordance with awarding body requirements.
The IQA will collaborate closely with the academy’s directors, tutors, and assessors, and will liaise with VTCT Skills as required. A key responsibility will be to review and evaluate the quality of learner evidence and assessment decisions prior to submission to VTCT Skills for external quality assurance and certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee internal quality assurance processes for the Level 7 aesthetics programme, ensuring compliance with academy, regulatory, and awarding body standards.
- Sample and monitor learner portfolios, assessment decisions, and feedback provided by tutors and assessors.
- Ensure that assessment practices are valid, reliable, fair, consistent, and sufficient prior to submission for external review and certification.
- Evaluate the quality of learner evidence to confirm alignment with required learning outcomes, assessment criteria, and qualification standards.
- Promote consistency in assessment practices through standardisation activities with tutors and assessors.
- Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and support to assessors to enhance assessment quality and compliance.
- Identify gaps, risks, or inconsistencies in assessment or internal processes and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records, including sampling plans, standardisation documentation, and action plans.
- Support preparation for external quality assurance activities, centre visits, and awarding body monitoring.
- Liaise with directors and VTCT Skills, as appropriate, regarding quality assurance matters, learner outcomes, and centre compliance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the academy’s quality systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure all quality assurance activities are conducted in accordance with policies relating to equality, fairness, confidentiality, and professional standards.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Hold a recognised Internal Quality Assurance qualification,
- Must also possess certificate in Level 7 in Aesthetics.
- Knowledge of clinical aesthetics, non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and associated training standards.
- Demonstrate relevant occupational competence and current experience in aesthetics / medical aesthetics / cosmetic injectable training.
- Possess experience in assessing or quality assuring vocational or higher-level professional qualifications.
- Have a sound understanding of quality assurance principles, including sampling, standardisation, and assessment practices.
- Ability to interpret qualification requirements and apply awarding body standards accurately.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain clear, accurate, and auditable records.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with directors, tutors, assessors, and awarding body representatives.
- High level of professional integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working with VTCT Skills or another regulated awarding organisation.
- Experience in quality assuring Level 7 qualifications. Qualification in Level 7 Aesthetic is essential. Please do not apply if you are in process of acquiring the qualification.
- Teaching or assessor qualifications.
- Experience in centre compliance, audit preparation, or external quality assurance visits.
Main Duties
The Internal Quality Assurer will:
- Develop and implement an internal sampling strategy;
- Review learner work and assessment decisions at appropriate stages of the programme;
- Ensure assessors apply standards consistently;
- Support standardisation meetings and quality improvement initiatives;
- Verify that learner evidence is complete, authentic, and ready for submission;
- Report quality assurance outcomes to the directors;
- Prepare documentation required for VTCT Skills quality assurance processes;
- Contribute to maintaining the integrity and reputation of the academy’s Level 7 aesthetics provision.
Accountability
The postholder is accountable for the internal quality assurance of the academy’s Level 7 aesthetics training and for ensuring that learner achievement claims submitted to the awarding body are accurate, robust, and fully supported by appropriate evidence.
