In the first half of 2026, Indian startups closed 501 funding rounds. Most of
those companies never got written about properly — and funding is only one part
of what's happening.
Indian labs are publishing real AI research. Companies are being built in Pune,
Coimbatore and Bhubaneswar, not just Bengaluru. Indians run some of the largest
companies in the world. And very little of it gets covered in a way that's
actually useful to the people it affects.
The Bharat Beacon covers the people, companies and institutions building India —
founder and startup stories, funding rounds and exits, Indian AI and deep tech,
breakthroughs coming out of campuses and labs, and the opportunities that come
out of all of it. We publish daily on LinkedIn.
We're looking for our first editorial hire.
WHAT YOU'D ACTUALLY DO
• Research Indian companies, founders, funding rounds and institutions from
public sources — announcements, company filings, university and lab pages,
primary reporting
• Draft short posts and carousel scripts in our house style: numbers first,
no adjectives you can't source, short sentences
• Fact-check every figure against a primary source before it goes out. This is
the part of the job that matters most
• Help build and maintain our database of Indian companies, founders, campuses
and open roles
• Pitch stories. If you spot something nobody has covered, that's the job
WHO THIS IS FOR
• You follow Indian business, technology or the startup ecosystem closely
enough that you'd be reading this stuff anyway
• You write clearly in English and can say something in 80 words instead of 300
• You check things rather than assuming them, and you're comfortable saying
"I couldn't verify this"
• Students and recent graduates are very welcome. We care what you can do,
not where you studied — which is sort of the whole point of this publication
WHY "FOUNDING":
You'd be the first person we've hired. The house style isn't finished, the
templates aren't fixed, and the beats aren't carved up yet — you'd have real
influence over what this publication becomes, what it covers and how it sounds.
It also means some of it will be messy, and you should want that rather than
tolerate it.
THE TERMS:
• ₹5,000 per month stipend
• 2–4 hours a week — roughly 20 hours a month
• Fully remote, flexible hours. We work asynchronously;
• Initial term of 3 months, extendable
• You get a public byline on everything you write, a portfolio of published
work, a written reference at the end, and first claim on a paid role as our
revenue grows
