Job Description
The Senior Accountant serves as the accounting lead for Neology PSquare-India, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, supervising accounting staff, managing month-end close activities, and supporting financial reporting requirements.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring an experienced accounting professional who can quickly assume responsibility with minimal onboarding. The successful candidate will independently manage accounting operations, lead accounting meetings, drive process improvements, and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
A key objective of this role is to strengthen the company internal accounting capabilities, and improve accounting processes.
The position works closely with the U.S. Corporate Accounting, management, external advisors, and operational teams while maintaining internal ownership of accounting activities, documentation, and reporting support. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills who can effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Leadership & Team Management
Lead the day-to-day accounting function and supervise accounting staff.
Review accounting work, establish accountability, and support employee development.
Lead accounting, month-end close, and financial review meetings.
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
Own the General Ledger, prepare and review journal entries, and maintain accurate accounting records
Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, lease amortization, and intercompany entries
Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and books are closed timely and accurately.
Revenue Recognition, Project Accounting & Analysis
Apply revenue recognition policies, review contracts billing arrangements, and project documentation
Perform project accounting, project costing, profitability analysis, labor cost analysis, and financial reporting
Analyze COGS, payroll, subcontractor costs, R&D expenses, and operating expenses.
Accounting Remediation & Process Improvement
Bring backlogged bookkeeping and accounting records current.
Review historical accounting records and supporting schedules.
Coordinate significant accounting adjustments, corrections, and reclassifications with Corporate Accounting
Strengthen internal accounting capabilities, streamline accounting processes, and improve documentation standards.
Fixed Assets, Procurement & Payroll
Perform capitalization analysis and maintain fixed asset, depreciation, and lease schedules.
Coordinate asset inventories and validate asset classifications.
Oversee accounting aspects of purchasing, Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, customer billing, and payroll accounting.
Maintain knowledge of India payroll compliance requirements.
Systems, Intercompany & Reporting
Serve as the primary Zoho Books administrator and lead system optimization initiatives
Manage India-U.S. intercompany accounting activities and support transfer pricing and markup calculations
Support India statutory reporting and U.S. parent-company reporting requirements.
Internal Controls & Segregation of Duties
Establish and maintain accounting controls, approval workflows, and documentation standards
Implement appropriate segregation of duties across purchasing, billing, payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, financial reporting, and approval functions.
Evaluate existing workflows and strengthen governance, accountability, and process controles.
Corporate & External Coordination
Work closely with Corporate Accounting to ensure compliance with accounting policies, reporting standards, and corporate requirements.
Coordinate with external Chartered Accountants, auditors, payroll providers, tax advisors, and other consultants.
Ensure accounting records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation remain organized, accurate, and audit-ready.
Professional Competencies
Strong knowledge of Indian accounting practices and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP; exposure to multinational reporting environments is preferred.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them to complex transactions, reconciliations, revenue recognition, financial analysis, and accounting classifications.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise accounting personnel.
Conduct employee performance evaluations and coaching sessions.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training activities.
Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development guidance to support staff.
Monitor productivity and service performance metrics.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field.

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting

HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE:
Employees have the flexibility to work remotely part-time, with occasional in office days as required.
WORK HOURS:
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including a 1 hour lunch break. Flexibility is required, as work may occasionally extend to evenings, weekends, or involve travel, depending on business needs.
