About The Role
The Project Manager is accountable for the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional business and technology initiatives within a fast-paced Insurtech environment. This position leads projects from planning through implementation, transition, and closeout, ensuring that intended business outcomes are achieved within approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk parameters.
The Project Manager provides structure and leadership across multidisciplinary teams that may include insurance operations, underwriting, product, technology, data, finance, compliance, legal, and external partners. This individual is accountable for planning, coordinating, governing, and delivering projects including driving execution, facilitating critical decisions, managing competing priorities, and maintaining accountability across all levels of the project.
Successful candidates will combine disciplined project management expertise with business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through influence in an evolving, technology-enabled insurance organization.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Delivery
Lead complex business, operational, product, and technology projects from initiation through implementation and closeout.
Establish the project governance and delivery structure, scope, objectives, success measures, milestones, and implementation approach.
Translate strategic business objectives into actionable project plans with clearly defined deliverables, owners, dependencies, and timelines.
Assume accountability for overall project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and business outcomes.
Drive project execution across cross-functional teams, ensuring that commitments are understood, monitored, and completed.
Maintain delivery momentum by identifying obstacles, resolving conflicts, and facilitating timely decisions.
Evaluate project performance and implement corrective actions when results deviate from approved plans.
Ensure projects transition successfully into ongoing business operations, with clear ownership and support models following implementation.
Scope, Schedule, and Budget Management
Define, validate, and manage project scope in partnership with executive sponsors, business owners, and key stakeholders.
Develop and maintain integrated project plans that account for business, operational, technical, vendor, and regulatory dependencies.
Establish realistic schedules based on project complexity, resource capacity, organizational priorities, and implementation requirements.
Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, forecasts, vendor costs, and financial performance, as applicable.
Assess the impact of requested changes to scope, schedule, cost, resources, risk, and anticipated benefits.
Lead formal change-control processes and obtain appropriate stakeholder approval before implementing material changes.
Provide transparent reporting on project health, financial status, delivery risks, and forecasted outcomes.
Risk, Issue, and Dependency Management
Proactively identify, assess, and manage project risks, issues, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies.
Develop mitigation, contingency, and recovery plans for risks that could affect delivery or business outcomes.
Evaluate the business impact and urgency of project issues and drive timely resolution with accountable owners.
Escalate significant decisions, risks, resource constraints, and delivery concerns to project sponsors and PMO leadership.
Monitor dependencies across projects, systems, business areas, vendors, and implementation workstreams.
Apply sound judgment to balance speed, quality, cost, risk, and business value when recommending a course of action.
Maintain clear decision, risk, issue, and change records throughout the project lifecycle.
Stakeholder and Executive Management
Serve as the primary delivery leader and central point of accountability for assigned projects.
Establish productive working relationships with executive sponsors, business leaders, subject matter experts, technology teams, vendors, and implementation partners.
Clarify roles, decision rights, escalation paths, and stakeholder expectations at the beginning of each project.
Provide concise, decision-oriented updates to executives, steering committees, and governance groups.
Present project recommendations, alternatives, tradeoffs, risks, and business impacts in a clear and actionable manner.
Facilitate alignment when stakeholders have competing goals, priorities, or perspectives.
Build consensus and secure decisions necessary to maintain project progress.
Manage stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle and communicate changes proactively.
Cross-Functional Team Leadership
Lead multidisciplinary project teams across insurance operations, underwriting, product, technology, data, finance, legal, compliance, and other business functions.
Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and results within the project team.
Define project roles and responsibilities and ensure team members understand their commitments.
Partner with functional leaders to secure qualified project resources and address competing capacity demands.
Facilitate effective collaboration between business and technology teams.
Hold workstream leaders and project contributors accountable for agreed deliverables and deadlines.
Support productive conflict resolution and remove barriers that could affect team performance or delivery.
Provide project direction without relying on formal supervisory authority.
Technology and Insurtech Delivery
Lead initiatives involving insurance platforms, digital products, workflow automation, systems integration, data solutions, operational transformation, or customer-facing technology.
Partner with product, engineering, data, quality assurance, information security, and business teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Coordinate business and technical workstreams to ensure requirements, solution design, testing, implementation, and operational readiness remain aligned.
Ensure that business requirements and expected outcomes are understood and traceable throughout project delivery.
Manage project activities across Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models based on the needs of the initiative.
Coordinate release planning, testing readiness, deployment activities, implementation support, and post-launch stabilization.
Work with appropriate partners to ensure projects consider security, privacy, compliance, data integrity, and operational-resilience requirements.
Support the successful integration of third-party platforms and external technology partners.
Insurance Operations and Regulatory Alignment
Develop an understanding of the insurance processes, products, controls, and operating models affected by each project.
Partner with underwriting, operations, claims, finance, actuarial, compliance, legal, and technology stakeholders as required by the initiative.
Ensure relevant regulatory, contractual, audit, security, and compliance considerations are incorporated into project plans.
Identify operational impacts resulting from changes to systems, workflows, products, data, or business processes.
Coordinate with control functions to obtain required reviews, approvals, and documentation.
Promote solutions that improve scalability, data quality, operational efficiency, customer experience, and business performance.
Ensure project teams appropriately document material decisions, requirements, controls, and approvals.
