Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Associate CDM / H&S Adviser, you’ll provide specialist Principal Designer, Client CDM Adviser and Health & Safety services across a diverse portfolio, including residential, healthcare, government, defence, transport, environmental, commercial and education projects. You’ll support compliance with the Building Regulations (including HRB requirements) and CDM Regulations 2015, helping clients, designers and contractors manage health and safety throughout the project lifecycle.
Your Impact in this position
You’ll bring technical expertise and practical judgement to projects, building trusted relationships with clients, designers, contractors and project teams. You’ll contribute to the development of Tetra Tech Europe’s Principal Designer (Building Regulations) capability, while delivering high-quality advice, site inspections, training and safety management solutions across the wider business.
Core Capabilities
Principal Designer – Building Regulations: Apply your expertise to deliver Principal Designer services under the Building Regulations, including High-Risk Buildings, while supporting robust compliance and effective design risk management.
Principal Designer & Client CDM Adviser: Provide confident, practical advice under CDM 2015, supporting clients and project teams to meet their statutory duties.
Health & Safety Management: Use your construction and occupational H&S expertise to identify risks, provide proportionate advice and promote effective safety management.
Technical & Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrate strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation, CDM 2015 and the Building Regulations, with the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical solutions.
Communication & Collaboration: Engage confidently with clients, designers, contractors, workers and senior stakeholders, influencing positive health and safety outcomes across varied project environments.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
You’ll have substantial experience as a Principal Designer and Client CDM Adviser, together with experience delivering Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services, including for HRBs, and general H&S advisory services. NEBOSH or equivalent qualifications are expected, alongside Grad IOSH and CMaPS membership (or equivalent). RIBA PD Register registration, or the ability to achieve this within three months, is required. Relevant professional membership and demonstrable CPD are essential. Defence sector experience is advantageous.
Working Environment
This role supports flexible working, with opportunities for hybrid, remote, flexible start and finish times, compressed hours, reduced hours or job share, subject to project requirements. The role involves a combination of office, client and construction-site working, so travel and a full driving licence with access to a suitable vehicle for business use are required.
