INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

GKA Capital was retained by a leading financial services group in Botswana to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board — this is a rare opportunity for a seasoned executive, who may also be recently retired, to bring independent oversight and specialist insight to a Board driving strategy and transformation at the highest level.
WHAT KEY DRIVERS YOU WILL LEAD
● Independent oversight and constructive challenge on strategy, risk and performance
● Board Committee representation aligned to your area of expertise
● Specialist input into strategic and transformation initiatives
● Regulator and stakeholder engagement, where required
● Governance, ethics and fiduciary standards across the organisation
YOU BRING
● Senior/executive-level career in Retail Banking, with experience across lending and transactional banking, savings and investments, and digital and channel banking
● Expert or proficient-level experience across Retail Banking business lines — e.g. lending and transactional banking, savings and investment products, and digital and channel banking
● A track record relevant to digital transformation or technology-enabled banking (preferred)
● A decisive, incisive thinker with sound strategic judgement, comfortable making high-stakes calls under Board-level pressure and ambiguity
● Sound understanding of corporate governance and fiduciary duties
● Prior Board or Board Committee experience, ideally within a regulated financial institution (advantageous)
● South African, Namibian or Mozambican-based citizenship/work experience, and relationships with regulators such as Bank of Namibia or Banco de Moçambique, an added advantage
Board and Committee meetings are held quarterly, with additional strategy engagements as required.

Candidates based outside of Botswana are welcome to apply, particularly those with South African, Namibian or Mozambican ties. Our client's Head Office is based in Botswana, with banking operations across Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini and Kenya. Competitive overlap is concentrated in Namibia and Mozambique, where the entity holds a deposit-taking licence; elsewhere it operates as a lender rather than a deposit-taking competitor.
