Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Capacity Modeling)

2. About the Opportunity:
The Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Capacity Modeling) role is critical for ensuring the technical capacity to handle forecasted traffic, particularly during peak sales events. This position involves setting technical strategy, leading business-impacting projects, and collaborating across teams to maintain system sustainability and scalability. The role contributes by defining technical solutions, overseeing operations, fostering quality standards, and developing team talent to support the organization’s infrastructure demands.
3. Responsibilities:
Set the technical strategy for the team on an annual timeline.
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability and risks.
Advocate and define technical solutions and operational processes.
Own team operations and availability including monitoring, triage, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting.
Establish and promote code review and design standards within and beyond the team.
Provide feedback, guidance, and leadership to develop team talent.
4. Requirements:
8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
Proven experience with highly available distributed systems utilizing AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
Experience supporting scaling for large sales events such as Prime Day or Black Friday.
Expertise in tuning autoscaling, CPU/Memory, and multi-threading for compute workloads.
Demonstrated ability to deliver major features or system changes through technical and execution planning.
Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and understand systems from low-level code to architecture.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $225,000 - $275,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $200,000 - $250,000
