NTD is seeking an experienced reporter to produce original, high-quality journalism for NTD.com.
We’re looking for a curious and resourceful journalist who can go beyond the daily news cycle—developing sources, finding original angles, conducting interviews, and uncovering information that adds something new to the story.
The ideal candidate has experience covering important national issues and is comfortable reporting on complex subjects involving government, technology, business, national security, foreign affairs, or other rapidly evolving areas.
What You’ll Do
Develop and pitch original stories based on major news developments, emerging trends, and issues of public interest.
Go beyond the headlines to find new information, perspectives, and angles.
Interview government officials, experts, industry leaders, community members, and other relevant sources.
Research public records, documents, data, reports, and other primary sources.
Build and maintain a strong and diverse network of sources.
Take ownership of stories from initial idea through reporting, writing, and publication.
Identify opportunities for exclusive stories and deeper enterprise reporting.
Follow breaking and developing news and look for ways to advance the story through original reporting.
Work closely with editors to produce accurate, well-sourced, fair, and engaging journalism.
What We’re Looking For
3 years of professional journalism experience, preferably in digital news.
Experience covering a beat or developing subject-matter expertise.
A track record of generating original story ideas and independently pursuing them.
Strong interviewing, research, reporting, and writing skills.
Ability to cultivate knowledgeable and reliable sources.
Strong news judgment and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic ethics.
Ability to understand complex subjects and explain them clearly to a general audience.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with editors.
Familiarity with AP Style.
Nice to Have
Reporting experience in areas such as technology, government and public policy, business and the economy, or national security.
Experience using public records, data, or investigative research techniques.
Experience with video, multimedia, or social media reporting.
An established source network within a specialized beat.
