Scientist, II

Job Description: AbbVie Process Chemistry is responsible for the chemical development of AbbVie’s clinical candidates. We are looking for a highly motivated Scientist II who can make scientific contributions across synthetic molecule modalities, with a focus on driving the development of peptide programs from pre-clinical through clinical development. The candidate will be an integral part of peptide project teams and would be responsible for developing the synthetic process and executing activities required for drug substance.
Responsibilities:
Develop robust synthetic processes, supporting peptide assets and other synthetic molecule modality assets through all phases of development.
Participate in project teams towards development and characterization of new assets.
Establish, communicate, and execute research plans.
Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project.
Interpret results and draw conclusions from experiments, note significant deviations, and propose, design, and execute relevant follow-up experiments.
Exhibit high independence and productivity in laboratory research or method development.
Seize opportunities to pursue project relevant leads that are in line with the group’s strategy.
Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab.
Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety and GXP compliance.
Qualifications: BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry or a related field and 7+ (BS) or 5+ (MS) years of relevant industrial experience. Experience with GMP manufacturing and peptide process development. The candidate is required to be a strong team player and demonstrate scientific leadership, possessing effective oral and written communication skills for facilitating collaborations with cross-functional process development teams, both within and external to AbbVie.
