The Springer site is an underground mining operation located near Imlay, Nevada. As the project continues to advance, effective engineering, monitoring, and management of tailings infrastructure are essential to supporting safe, compliant, and responsible mine development and operations.
About the Role
The Senior Tailings Engineer provides technical engineering support for the design, construction, operation, monitoring, and ongoing management of both conventional and dry-stack tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and associated water-management infrastructure at the Springer site.
Working closely with Engineering, Projects, Construction, Operations, Environmental, Health and Safety, contractors, and specialist consultants, the Tailings Engineer helps ensure that tailings facilities are developed and managed in accordance with approved designs, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company expectations. The role also evaluates facility performance, identifies risks, and develops practical engineering recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical engineering support for tailings storage facilities and associated water-management infrastructure.
Review designs, specifications, calculations, drawings, and technical reports prepared by consultants and contractors.
Develop engineering recommendations that consider facility performance, operational requirements, constructability, and risk.
Construction Support
Provide technical support during foundation preparation, embankment construction, material placement, compaction, drainage installation, and related earthworks.
Review field conditions and work with the Engineer of Record and project teams to address technical questions or deviations from design assumptions.
Coordinate with Construction, Quality, Survey, and contractors to ensure technical requirements are understood and implemented.
Monitoring & Performance
Support the development and implementation of tailings inspection, monitoring, instrumentation, and surveillance programs.
Review instrumentation data, field observations, water levels, and facility performance to identify trends or conditions requiring action.
Conduct regular inspections and document findings, recommendations, and required follow-up activities.
