ML / Data Classification Engineer

Compensation: Up to $18,000–$20,000 for the 6-week engagement

About the Role
Symosis Security is seeking a hands-on ML / Data Classification Engineer for a 6-week client engagement focused on improving enterprise semantic-type classifiers used in a security context.
This role will focus on classifier configuration, rule and pattern updates, testing, validation, and engineering support. The work is expected to involve limited production software development and will primarily center on modifying existing classifier behavior, executing test cases, and validating results.
What you will do
Modify classifier configuration files, rules, patterns, thresholds, and related logic.
Support testing and improvement of semantic/data-classification systems.
Execute classifier evaluations against ground-truth datasets.
Analyze false positives and false negatives with the ML lead.
Implement and test recommended classifier changes.
Work with Python-based scripts and test utilities as needed.
Maintain configuration and code changes using Git and standard review practices.
Perform regression, edge-case, and validation testing.
Document changes, test results, and technical findings.
Work closely with the Senior ML / Applied Scientist and Symosis security leads.
What We're Looking For
3–7+ years of relevant software, data, ML, or detection-engineering experience.
Strong Python fundamentals.
Comfortable working with JSON, YAML, configuration-driven systems, regex, and pattern matching.
Experience testing or tuning classification, detection, analytics, or rules-based systems.
Familiarity with precision, recall, false positives, and false negatives.
Experience with Git, testing workflows, and technical documentation.
Ability to understand existing systems quickly and make controlled, testable changes.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Must be based in the United States and authorized to work in the U.S.

Large-scale data platforms
