DLC/DPAC Communications Associate (Full-time, fully remote)
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS
The Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition (DPAC) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing policies that improve the lives of people living with and at risk for diabetes and its complications. DPAC mobilizes the patient voice to influence federal and state policymakers, ensuring that healthcare decisions prioritize access, affordability, innovation, and quality care. Through strategic advocacy, grassroots engagement, coalition building, and direct lobbying, DPAC empowers advocates and influences policymakers to create meaningful policy change.
The Diabetes Leadership Council (DLC) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised of experienced leaders in the diabetes community. Our members - all former leaders of national diabetes organizations - are committed to securing effective, affordable health care and a discrimination-free environment for every person affected by diabetes through sound policy initiatives at the federal and state levels.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Communications Associate to support DLC and DPAC’s communications, digital campaigns, and advocate engagement. This role will help execute day-to-day content and communications across DLC and DPAC’s social media accounts, email, website, and other digital channels while supporting the development of materials that make complex policy issues accessible and engaging for the diabetes community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Communications: Support the day-to-day execution of DLC/DPAC’s communication and content strategy across social media, email, website, and other channels
Translate Policy to Advocacy: Assist in adapting policy messaging for advocacy campaigns, translating these developments into clear, accessible communications for advocates and the general audience while refining distinct DLC/DPAC “voice”
Web Content Management: Manage and maintain website content to ensure it remains current, while identifying opportunities to increase traffic, engagement, and overall visibility
Analytics & Content: Track performance and engagement metrics while monitoring channels to identify opportunities for timely content
Digital Journey Pathing: Help develop and maintain systems for tracking advocate engagement, interests, and other relevant program information
Content Development: Assist with capturing and developing infographics, photographs, short-form video, presentations, and other communications content
Advocacy Campaign Support: Support the development and rollout of advocacy campaigns, action alerts, toolkits, and related communications materials
Advocate Engagement & Program Support: Serve as additional point of contact for advocate programs and assist with participant questions and requests
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required
Up to 3 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, nonprofit work, or a related field
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to translate complex information into accessible, and engaging content for a variety of audiences
Experience developing and managing content across digital channels, including social media, websites, and email
Familiarity with digital analytics and using performance data to inform content and communications
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with community partners, volunteer advocates, and other stakeholders
Comfortable adapting quickly to changing advocacy priorities
Familiarity with the diabetes community or a demonstrated interest in health policy and patient advocacy
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with graphic design, video editing, photography, or other multimedia content creation
Experience with Canva, Webflow, or similar design and website content management platforms
Experience working in diabetes, healthcare, public policy, advocacy, nonprofit communications, or related environment
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a full-time, fully remote position with competitive salary and benefits. The position requires approximately 10% travel for advocacy events and board meetings.
