About PUNO Africa
PUNO Africa is an agri-fintech company. We help deep-rural smallholder farmers get the inputs they need to grow.
For over 5 years, PUNO financed farmers and connected them to markets. We served 1,000+ farmers. Growth was limited by capital, not by demand.
Now we're relaunching with a new model. PUNO is the infrastructure layer. We use AI credit scoring so input retailers and lenders can finance farmers with confidence. Farmers receive inputs, not cash. They then sell their harvest through PUNO. We never lend ourselves.
We're piloting in Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
The role
We're building an advisory board of 4 to 6 people. Each advisor brings deep knowledge in one area. You'll help us make better decisions, avoid costly mistakes and open the right doors.
What you'll do
Give strategic advice in your area of expertise
Join a quarterly advisory board session
Be available for ad-hoc calls when key decisions come up
Make introductions to partners, retailers, lenders or investors where it makes sense
Challenge our assumptions honestly
Areas we're looking for
Agricultural credit and risk
Agri-input retail and distribution
Crop and weather insurance
AI, data science or alternative credit scoring
Offtake, aggregation and market access
Early-stage fundraising and venture capital in Africa
Who you are
You have at least 5-7 years' experience in one of the areas above
You've built, funded, operated or regulated something in this space
You understand rural South Africa, or African smallholder markets
You care about farmers who are shut out of credit and markets
You're generous with your network and honest with your feedback
Time commitment
About 2 to 4 hours a month. The initial term is 12 months.
