Role Description The Nigerian Call for Language Contributor role is a remote volunteer opportunity focused on helping improve AI systems for Nigerian languages and dialects. Contributors will support projects such as data collection, transcription, translation, annotation, and evaluation of text, audio, and conversational content in Nigerian languages. Day-to-day tasks may include reviewing and labeling linguistic data, assessing the quality and accuracy of AI outputs, providing cultural and contextual feedback, and participating in structured evaluation workflows. Contributors will collaborate with project coordinators through online tools, follow clear guidelines, and complete assignments within agreed timelines. This role is suitable for individuals who want to support responsible AI development, contribute linguistic and cultural expertise, and gain experience working with international AI-focused teams.
Qualifications
Strong command of at least one Nigerian language (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Nigerian Pidgin, or other local languages) and solid proficiency in English for written instructions and communication.
Ability to accurately read, write, and understand linguistic nuances, including grammar, spelling, idioms, and cultural references in selected Nigerian languages.
Attention to detail and consistency when performing tasks such as transcription, annotation, translation, and data quality review.
Comfort using digital tools and platforms for remote collaboration, including web-based interfaces, spreadsheets, and online communication channels.
Reliable internet access and the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow project guidelines and ethical standards.
Background or studies in linguistics, language studies, communication, translation, or related fields is an advantage but not required.
Prior experience with data labeling, AI evaluation, or research assistance is beneficial, as is an interest in technology, AI, or language-focused innovation.
