Role Description The Software Engineer contract role at REI Systems is a remote position focused on designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions that support public sector and nonprofit missions. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing back-end application logic, writing clean and efficient code, performing code reviews, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as product managers, architects, and QA engineers. The Software Engineer will participate in requirements analysis, translate technical specifications into working software, and troubleshoot and resolve defects in existing systems. The role also involves contributing to system performance improvements, ensuring code quality and security standards are met, and documenting technical designs and implementation details.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Hands-on experience in Software Development and Programming using modern languages such as Java, C#, Python, or similar.
Proficiency in Back-End Web Development, including APIs, microservices, and integration with databases.
Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their practical application in large-scale systems.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines is beneficial.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with distributed teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience working on solutions for government or nonprofit clients is a plus.
