Halen is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our engineering team as we prepare our rideshare and delivery platform for launch.
You’ll work on our backend services, APIs, databases, testing, and cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on building reliable and scalable microservices.
What You'll Work On
Build and maintain asynchronous microservices using Python and FastAPI
Design and maintain REST APIs for our mobile and web applications
Work with SQLAlchemy ORM and PostgreSQL/SQLite
Build data models and relationships using SQLModel
Create and maintain database migrations using Alembic
Write reliable unit and integration tests using pytest
Work with Git-based repositories, branches, pull requests, and code reviews
Deploy and troubleshoot backend services in AWS
Work comfortably in Linux environments, including running scripts, services, logs, and command-line tools
Collaborate with Flutter, frontend, DevOps, QA, and other backend engineers
Review existing backend services and help improve performance, reliability, and scalability
What We're Looking For
Strong hands-on experience with:
Python
FastAPI and asynchronous programming
Microservices architecture
SQLAlchemy
SQLModel and database relationships
PostgreSQL and SQLite
Alembic database migrations
pytest / automated testing
Git and Git-based development workflows
AWS
Linux
Experience building production-grade APIs and microservices is important. Experience with high-volume, real-time, rideshare, delivery, logistics, mapping, or marketplace platforms is a plus.
Compensation & Commitment
This is currently a part-time, equity-compensated role, approximately 10–15 hours per week with a flexible schedule. You’ll receive shares in Halen for your contribution during this stage.
We’re actively fundraising, with the goal of transitioning the role into a full-time salaried position once funding is secured.
