About The Role
We are seeking a talented Data Engineer II to join Splice's Data Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in scaling and maintaining the platform that underpins critical functions such as creator payouts, revenue reporting, and product analytics. Your expertise will help establish a reliable, governed data foundation, enabling teams across the organization to operate from a trusted, consistent data source. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, models, and infrastructure that support finance, product, and customer-facing features.
This is a high-ownership, hands-on position requiring experience with data pipeline systems and a strong understanding of data modeling, orchestration, and platform reliability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to improve data quality, optimize performance, and ensure the platform scales efficiently. Your contributions will directly impact the accuracy and timeliness of critical business insights and revenue processes, supporting Splice’s mission to inspire music creators globally.
Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a production environment
Proficiency in SQL, including window functions, CTEs, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
Strong experience with Python for pipeline logic, data transformation, and testing
Experience with modern transformation frameworks such as SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent
Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, specifically BigQuery, including partitioning, clustering, and cost management
Proficiency with workflow orchestration tools like Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect
Demonstrated ability to build observable, reliable data systems with alerting, dashboards, and data quality checks
Ability to own and deliver small-to-medium features from technical design through to deployment with limited guidance
Responsibilities
Build and maintain data models in SQLMesh, including implementing incremental strategies, testing, and comprehensive documentation
Continuously improve and evolve data pipeline infrastructure to support platform scalability
Modernize legacy pipeline jobs in Python and SQLMesh, reducing technical debt over time
Participate in on-call rotation to triage and resolve incidents such as ETL failures, data unavailability, and metric discrepancies
Develop and refine observability tools, including alert thresholds, metrics, logs, dashboards, and escalation processes
Enhance data pipeline support for creator payouts and revenue reporting across multiple product lines
Build pipelines to support new revenue streams and product features as Splice launches them
Optimize query performance and reduce compute costs within BigQuery
Contribute to ingestion platform improvements and enhance product analytics infrastructure
Ensure all data work adheres to the definition of done, including validation, documentation, and monitoring setup
