About The Role
The Staff Data Engineer will be a key member of our Value Added Services - Digital Marketing & Engagement organization. This role involves designing, enhancing, and building Visa's data token platform within an agile development environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance data solutions. The role requires a deep understanding of big data technologies, data pipeline architecture, and data governance principles. The successful candidate will lead initiatives to process, transform, and manage both structured and unstructured data, ensuring the delivery of data products that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning use cases. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence data engineering practices, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to innovative projects that impact Visa’s global operations.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or at least 2 years with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD); PhD candidates require no specific work experience.
Demonstrated leadership in delivering large-scale, enterprise-class applications.
Extensive experience in big data engineering, including Hadoop, Apache Spark, Python, and SQL.
Proficiency in containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience in developing and managing large-scale data pipelines and deploying machine learning models.
Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes, Spark pipelines, and AI/ML model productization.
Familiarity with streaming technologies like Kafka, Redis, Flink, and cloud services such as AWS.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Unix/Shell, Python) and scheduling tools like Airflow and Control-M.
Experience working within Agile development frameworks, including TDD and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong understanding of data security, governance, and compliance practices.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative mindset.
Proven ability to mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize large-scale data pipelines for both batch and real-time data processing.
Build and maintain distributed data systems that are highly available, scalable, and resilient.
Lead initiatives to process, transform, and manage structured and unstructured data across multiple platforms.
Develop data platforms and products that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning applications.
Collaborate with product, analytics, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
Architect solutions using big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and cloud services.
Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring high data quality, reliability, and performance.
Implement automation, monitoring, and observability practices across data pipelines and systems.
Lead proof-of-concept initiatives to evaluate new data engineering technologies and approaches.
Influence best practices in data modeling, pipeline design, and data governance.
Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Engage with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver impactful solutions aligned with business goals.
Ensure data security and compliance standards are maintained throughout all data processes.
