About The Role
Peraton is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Automation Engineer to join the BASIS program team. This remote position plays a vital role in maintaining the program’s automation-first approach to quality assurance, ensuring that all testing activities are fully automated to meet rigorous Department of Defense (DoD) standards. The QA Automation Engineer will be responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts and test cases across the full deployment pipeline, supporting Agile sprint cycles and the Government-managed DevSecOps environment. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and QA leads, the successful candidate will contribute to expanding automated test coverage, developing Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs), and supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT). This role requires a strong understanding of test automation principles, security and compliance standards, and the ability to collaborate effectively within an Agile and DevSecOps framework. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work on mission-critical projects that impact national security and public safety, with a focus on continuous improvement and adherence to DoD quality standards.
Qualifications
0 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 4 years of experience with a High School diploma
Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
Obtain and maintain IAM/IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
Experience in software quality assurance, test automation, or related roles
Foundational knowledge of test automation principles and experience writing automated test scripts using frameworks or scripting languages such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Python, Java, or equivalent
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and DevSecOps principles
Basic experience with defect tracking tools, preferably JIRA
Understanding of the software testing lifecycle, including unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to document test results clearly
Effective communication skills for collaboration with developers, leads, and stakeholders
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain automated test scripts for unit, integration, and end-to-end functional testing aligned with Agile sprint schedules and program standards
Ensure all automated test cases are executable by the end of each sprint and integrated into the DevSecOps pipeline
Support Test-Driven Development (TDD) by writing test cases prior to code development in collaboration with software developers
Analyze current test automation coverage and contribute to automation assessment reports and project plans
Automate legacy test cases to expand regression testing coverage across the application portfolio
Develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) demonstrating comprehensive testing of all requirements
Assist in preparing UAT plans, test scenarios, and scripts for government and external partner testing activities
Document test activities, results, and defect findings within the designated Test Case Management System
Participate in code reviews at various stages to ensure adherence to quality standards
Monitor defect tracking and triage issues in JIRA, conducting analysis and error replication before escalation
Support security and compliance testing using tools such as Fortify, Sonatype, and BURP, ensuring code scans are reviewed and documented
Conduct accessibility testing against WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards and support the preparation of VPATs
Assist in stress, load, and disaster recovery testing activities, supporting IV&V efforts prior to deployment
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, maintaining defect tracking, test case status, and metrics in JIRA
Contribute to the Monthly Quality Status Report and ensure compliance with deployment standards and quality gates
