Architectural Collaborator / Future Partner — German-speaking
We are a growing architecture practice based in Uruguay, working primarily on private residential projects for international clients.
We are looking for a German-speaking architect or architecture student who could become part of the practice — initially as a freelance collaborator, with the possibility of developing the relationship into a long-term partnership.
This is a somewhat unusual role.
It sits between client communication and architecture: understanding what a client wants, helping define the project, and carrying that information into the first stages of the architectural design.
The role
Our projects often begin with conversations with clients who are looking to build a home in Uruguay.
You would participate in those initial conversations, discussing things such as:
How they want to live
Their ideas and references
Architectural style
Location and site
Budget and timeframe
Their expectations for the project
From there, you would help translate those conversations into the early architectural work — particularly the early project (Entwurfsplanung/Anteproyecto) phase and coordinate with the rest of the design team as the project develops.
A large part of the role is therefore communication in german, understanding and translation to the design team.
Because many of our clients are German-speaking, German at C1 level or above is essential. You should be able to speak naturally and comfortably with clients about their ideas, concerns and expectations.
English is required. Spanish is a strong advantage.
Who might be a good fit?
We are open to different backgrounds.
You might be an experienced architect looking for a different way of working.
Or you might have recently finished your studies and be looking for the opportunity to build something of your own rather than immediately stepping into a conventional office structure.
We are particularly interested in people who are considering moving to Uruguay or South America.
Being based in Uruguay would be ideal, since it would also make occasional site visits possible, but it is not a requirement.
We can imagine this being particularly interesting for a German-speaking architecture student or young architect who has been thinking about making a life outside Europe, but is not yet sure how to make that step.
You could continue working primarily in German while gradually becoming familiar with the local environment and Spanish.
What we work with
We work primarily with Revit, so Revit experience is a significant advantage.
It is not a prerequisite. We are more interested in finding the right person than in checking every box.
How we could work together
Two options: it's up to your needs.
A: Long-term Partnership
If the collaboration develops well, we are open to discussing a more permanent role within the practice, including the possibility of joining as a partner.
In that case, we would structure the arrangement around the person's contribution, responsibilities, experience and long-term involvement in the practice, rather than treating it as a conventional employment position.
B: Freelance
The initial collaboration can be freelance, either on an ongoing basis or according to the needs of individual projects.
Rates would start from €11/hour, depending on experience and responsibilities, with room to develop as the collaboration becomes more substantial.
About the practice
We are based in Uruguay and work mainly on residential projects for international clients.
Many of our clients are Europeans or Americans who have decided to build a new home in South America. Some projects are on the coast, others in rural areas, and each one tends to be quite personal.
We are growing, but we want to do so carefully.
We are looking for someone who is interested not only in producing drawings, but in being part of the process from the first conversation with the client through to the architecture itself.
