About The Role
We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Development Engineer to join our Elastic File Storage (EFS) team in Boston. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining distributed storage systems that handle real workloads at an unprecedented scale. You will work on core system components, including consensus protocols, replication strategies, and failure handling mechanisms, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and performance. You will have the opportunity to operate and improve the systems you build, engaging in performance tuning, debugging, and capacity planning. Your work will directly impact the reliability and efficiency of storage solutions used by a wide array of AWS customers, from small web applications to large-scale analytics and machine learning pipelines.
Qualifications
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, focusing on reliability and scalability
1+ years of experience as a Software Development Engineer or related role
1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, distributed software applications using C++, Java, C#, or Perl
Object-Oriented Design experience
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Responsibilities
Design and implement distributed systems, including consensus protocols, replication strategies, and failure handling mechanisms
Develop systems-level software for storage engines and critical data paths to optimize performance and reliability
Operate services at scale through performance tuning, debugging production issues, and capacity planning
Create tooling and automation to enhance operational efficiency for large infrastructure management
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and develop innovative solutions
Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables
Engage in on-call duties to maintain system availability and resolve operational issues promptly
Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and operational practices
