Volunteer Behavioural Economics Advisor – NorthStar Advisory Board
Location: The Netherlands / remote
Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 hours per week
Term: Initial six-month appointment
Compensation: Unpaid advisory position
About NorthStar
NorthStar develops interactive financial education for teenagers aged 14–17. Through games, storytelling and relatable real-life situations, we help young people make more informed financial decisions.
Our scenarios address topics including budgeting, saving, discounts, peer pressure, online purchases, Buy Now Pay Later and unexpected expenses.
The role
As our Behavioural Economics Advisor, you will join NorthStar’s advisory board. You will help us translate behavioural-science insights into responsible game mechanics and financial-learning experiences for teenagers.
Your contribution
You will support NorthStar by:
Reviewing scenarios and decision points in our games
Applying insights from behavioural economics and behavioural science
Analysing mechanisms such as anchoring, scarcity, social proof, framing, defaults and impulse purchasing
Supporting the development of ethical and age-appropriate choice architecture
Reviewing feedback, rewards and consequences within the game
Helping develop simple methods for measuring learning and behavioural outcomes
Participating in periodic advisory-board meetings
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with:
Expertise in behavioural economics, behavioural science, consumer psychology or a related discipline
Experience in research, experimentation or behavioural interventions
An interest in financial decision-making and financial wellbeing
The ability to translate scientific insights into practical recommendations
Strong communication skills in English; Dutch is an advantage
Experience involving teenagers, education, financial literacy or vulnerable groups is highly desirable.
