About The Role
GSM Industrial is seeking an Experienced Project Designer to join our engineering and fabrication team. This role is integral to the development of custom industrial projects, involving the design and detailing of structural steel, sheet metal, plates, industrial ductwork, piping, tubing, and equipment layouts. The successful candidate will bring a strong mechanical drafting and design background, with proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling tools, and a practical understanding of how designs are translated into fabrication and installation processes. The Project Designer will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and fabrication personnel to ensure that designs meet client specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled individual who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, producing accurate and buildable drawings, and seeing their designs come to life in the shop and field. The role requires a detail-oriented approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and precision.
Qualifications
3-5 years of relevant experience in mechanical, structural, industrial, or fabrication design
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Tekla
Working knowledge of sheet metal, plate, pipe/tubing, and structural steel fabrication methods
Ability to translate concepts, sketches, and field measurements into accurate 3D models and detailed drawings
Solid understanding of industrial design principles, dimensional tolerances, and fabrication practices
Strong mathematical skills for precise measurements and calculations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration
Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Willingness and ability to travel for site visits as required
Responsibilities
Develop detailed 2D and 3D designs for industrial systems using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Tekla
Create comprehensive shop drawings, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and fabrication details for various components
Generate accurate cut lists, material takeoffs, and requisition documents to support procurement and fabrication
Review, interpret, and refine engineering drawings to ensure compliance with GSM Industrial standards
Conduct site visits and field measurements to support precise design development
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams to ensure design intent and constructability
Provide technical support throughout fabrication and installation phases to resolve design-related issues
Participate in project kickoff meetings to understand scope, materials, schedules, and customer requirements
Support the continuous improvement of design procedures, standards, and workflows
