Head of Product Design

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a design leadership role at a fast-growing AI-powered procurement platform for industrial buyers. You will define how humans and AI agents collaborate across the product, shaping interaction paradigms that make complex, high-stakes cost decisions legible and trustworthy. The role sits at the heart of the product organization and directly influences profitability for large industrial customers.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Define the interaction paradigm where AI agents execute procurement workflows and buyers supervise, steer, and handle exceptions.
- Create mental models, UI patterns, and frameworks that make dense procurement data accessible and actionable for non-analyst users.
- Own and evolve the design system and component architecture to support agent-driven development and rapid iteration.
- Translate complex procurement concepts (such as should-costing, raw material indices, and contract leakage) into clear, actionable UX.
- Build, hire, and lead a team of approximately four product designers, setting standards for craft, speed, and strategic impact.
- Establish design as a strategic partner in the product trio alongside product management and engineering.
- Drive company-wide user understanding by implementing UX research best practices and championing real user problems.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 6+ years in product design, with 2+ years leading a design team at a high-growth technology company.
- Deep experience designing data-heavy, workflow-driven products and treating information density as an asset rather than a problem.
- Strong systems thinking with a track record of designing in frameworks, patterns, and reusable components rather than one-off screens.
- Genuine fluency with AI as a design material, including a clear point of view on LLMs, agents, automation, and human oversight.
- Experience hiring and growing a design team, and establishing design-team processes and UX research programs.
- Startup or high-complexity project experience with demonstrated performance in demanding, fast-moving environments.
- Ability to move fluidly between strategic leadership and hands-on craft as the situation requires.
- Strong collaborator with product and engineering counterparts.
- Fluent in English; German proficiency is a plus.
LOCATION
On-site in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
