I. Position Overview
The Chief Product Officer (CPO) is responsible for the company's overall product strategy, product portfolio, product innovation, and the development of the product organization, ensuring that the product direction aligns with the company's overall business strategy, customer needs, and market opportunities.
This role provides comprehensive leadership across the entire product lifecycle—from strategy to execution—coordinating teams such as product, engineering, design, marketing, sales, customer success, and operations. The CPO drives the end-to-end process—spanning market insights, proof of concept, development, launch, and continuous optimization—and fosters the company's long-term growth through product innovation and commercialization.
II. Key Responsibilities
1. Product Strategy and Planning
Formulate the company's overall product strategy, medium-to-long-term product roadmaps, and development plans.
Translate corporate business strategy into clear product objectives, priorities, and execution plans.
Continuously adjust product strategy based on market trends, customer needs, and the competitive landscape.
Establish product portfolio management mechanisms and optimize the allocation of product resources.
2. Product Development and Lifecycle Management
Oversee the full product lifecycle, including concept, R&D, testing, launch, and iterative optimization.
Establish standardized product development processes, decision-making mechanisms, and product management systems.
Collaborate with engineering, design, and technical teams to ensure high-quality product delivery according to schedule.
Assume ultimate responsibility for product scope, prioritization, release timing, and key product decisions.
3. Customer and Market Insights
Establish systematic mechanisms for gathering customer needs and conducting market research.
Analyze customer feedback, usage data, market trends, and competitor activities.
Translate market insights into opportunities for product innovation and improvement.
Ensure products consistently address the core business challenges of target customers.
4. Product Innovation
Identify opportunities for new products, features, business models, and markets.
Establish mechanisms for product innovation and proof-of-concept testing.
Drive the appropriate application of technologies such as AI, data analytics, and automation within products.
Manage investment prioritization and business value assessment for innovation projects.
5. Product Commercialization
Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer success teams to formulate go-to-market and commercialization strategies.
Support product positioning, value proposition definition, pricing, and market entry strategies.
Monitor product revenue, customer adoption rates, retention rates, and overall commercial performance. Optimize the product business model based on market feedback.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration
Maintain close collaboration with the CEO, CTO, CMO, CRO, CFO, and other executives.
Establish cross-functional collaboration mechanisms among product, engineering, design, sales, and marketing teams.
Drive decision-making, resource coordination, and problem-solving for major product initiatives.
Report product strategy and key progress to senior management and the board of directors.
7. Product Organization and Team Leadership
Build an efficient product organizational structure and talent development system.
Lead and develop teams responsible for product management, product design, and related functions.
Recruit, mentor, and motivate senior product talent.
Establish clear performance goals, product decision-making processes, and accountability frameworks.
8. Data and Product Performance Management
Define product KPIs and product operational metrics.
Leverage customer data, product analytics, and business data to inform product decisions.
Regularly evaluate product performance and drive continuous optimization.
Establish mechanisms to assess product ROI and resource utilization efficiency.
III. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, or a related field.
Typically possesses 20+ years of experience in product management, product strategy, technology, business, or related areas.
Typically possesses 8+ years of experience in product leadership or senior management roles.
Proven experience managing the full product lifecycle, from strategy to commercialization.
Experience managing large cross-functional teams and complex product portfolios.
Familiarity with product development, product operations, go-to-market strategies, and product lifecycle management.
Strong capabilities in data analysis, business judgment, and strategic planning.
Ability to communicate effectively with the board of directors and C-suite executives.
