2. About the Opportunity:
The Sr/Staff Software Engineer, Backend | Web Products role is responsible for setting technical direction and building scalable, reliable backend systems within the Pay and Audit product teams. This position influences key product and engineering decisions, collaborates cross-functionally, and leverages AI tools to advance software development aimed at significantly impacting healthcare payment processes.
3. Responsibilities:
Develop deep understanding of healthcare claims and payments domain
Mentor and elevate team programming standards and maturity
Serve as backend representative in cross-team planning and execution
Contribute to developing complex, extensible, scalable, and secure in-browser applications
Balance feature development with technical debt management
Architect and implement applications applying machine learning to large datasets
Design reliable, high-performance interconnected systems
Integrate and promote agentic engineering practices in daily work
4. Requirements:
10+ years of backend programming experience; full-stack experience preferred
Proven experience designing and delivering customer-facing web application products
Proficiency in Java or Scala; Rust highly desired
Experience with building and operating distributed cloud-based systems at scale
Ability to write clear Technical Design Documents bridging product intent and backend design
Product- and user-focused mindset connecting technical decisions to user outcomes
Strong collaboration skills across engineering, product, data science, and leadership
Practical problem-solving with systems-level thinking
Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools in production
Ability to read, understand, and improve complex codebases
Comfortable managing complexity and driving solutions proactively
Preferred: Technical leadership in Rust best practices
BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
