2. About the Opportunity:
The Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Applied AI) role is centered on developing backend systems that integrate machine learning and large language model capabilities into clinical AI products. This position bridges backend engineering and AI, working to transform experimental models into dependable, production-ready software that supports healthcare teams. The role is critical for advancing the organization's AI-powered applications and ensuring their reliability and scalability.
3. Responsibilities:
Design, build, and deploy backend services incorporating LLMs and AI models
Develop production workflows for model inference, tool use, and agentic processes
Collaborate with Data Scientists to transition models into maintainable production systems
Implement evaluation and feedback mechanisms to monitor AI performance
Architect systems to manage probabilistic and non-deterministic AI behavior
Handle clinical and operational data across structured and unstructured formats
Work cross-functionally with engineering, product, data science, and clinical teams
Enhance backend architecture to support scalable applications
Ensure patient data privacy and security through secure coding practices
Research and recommend improvements in AI system development
Provide production support for AI applications
4. Requirements:
Minimum 5 years in software development focusing on backend and cloud systems
Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript with strong engineering fundamentals
Experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications
Skilled in integrating AI models into larger software systems
Experience working closely with Data Scientists or ML teams
Expertise in API, service, data model design, and asynchronous workflows
Familiarity with Postgres or similar relational databases
Experience with cloud-native distributed architectures
Ability to evaluate and monitor AI systems in production
Strong judgment in reliability, testing, and failure handling of probabilistic systems
Experience in security-sensitive environments
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Base salary range: $190,000 to $230,000
