The Staff Engineer role combines deep technical expertise with strategic business insight to design and implement architectural solutions that advance the organization's goals. This position influences technical direction, mentors engineers, and identifies opportunities to leverage emerging technologies that improve growth, efficiency, and customer experience. The role requires managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective systems that impact multiple teams and product domains.
3. Responsibilities:
Solve complex, mission-critical problems requiring cross-team collaboration and technical evaluation.
Serve as a trusted technical consultant and architect for multiple teams.
Align technical direction with business and product goals in partnership with stakeholders.
Explore and assess emerging technologies for business value.
Lead technical design, planning, and execution of large-scale, multi-system initiatives.
Evaluate trade-offs among performance, scalability, maintainability, and cost.
Define and deliver technical improvements to system integrity and performance.
Conduct architectural reviews and identify opportunities for simplification and modernization.
Mentor engineers through reviews, pair programming, and coaching.
Promote consistency in design patterns, operational excellence, and best practices.
Foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and collaboration.
4. Requirements:
Advanced expertise in multiple software engineering disciplines with experience solving complex cross-domain problems.
Proven ability to architect and deliver scalable, resilient systems aligned with business strategy.
Strong systems thinking connecting architectural decisions to operational and security outcomes.
Experience architecting and maintaining full-stack TypeScript systems with robust type safety.
Excellent communication skills for simplifying complex ideas and aligning stakeholders.
Deep knowledge of React and modern web architectures for scalable design systems.
Understanding of software architecture principles, cloud infrastructure, and secure design.
Ownership of Node.js/TypeScript ecosystems, including shared patterns and testing strategies.
Commitment to continuous learning and evaluation of emerging technologies.
Experience designing and scaling REST and GraphQL microservices with clean domain boundaries.
Skilled mentor with a track record of elevating engineering talent.
Proficiency in designing cloud-native solutions on AWS using Infrastructure as Code.
Experience implementing observability and monitoring frameworks to ensure high availability.
Ability to operate autonomously, influence multiple teams, and drive alignment.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Total Cash Compensation Range: $130,000 - $210,000 per year
New York City Total Cash Compensation Range: $162,500 - $262,500 per year
Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.
