Join the Wireless Technology and Ecosystems team and be part of a highly skilled team of engineers and researchers, working with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and develop products used by millions worldwide.
Apple’s Cellular Software team is seeking highly motivated and disciplined researchers and engineers to work across layers on groundbreaking cellular technologies. The position involves identifying and developing AI/ML-driven solutions and core cellular technologies that solve everyday problems for customers across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and other wireless product lines.

Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for highly motivated PhD students (2nd Year or beyond) in AI/ML, Computer Science, Communication Engineering, or related fields to work on applied AI/ML research problems involving real-world engineering data.
Strong fundamentals in Machine Learning, Statistics, and Optimization, with strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript. Deep understanding of software development concepts, algorithms, data structures, Operating Systems, and software engineering practices.
Knowledge of LLMs, Generative AI, Transformers, RAG, or AI Agents is desirable. Exposure to vector databases, MCP, tool calling, or agentic AI is a plus.
Ability to read, understand, and implement ideas from AI/ML research papers, analyze model failures, and improve model performance, robustness, and generalization.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, technical communication, and collaboration skills are expected.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing and evaluating ML models on real-world datasets. Ability to formulate ML problems from ambiguous engineering challenges and apply appropriate model evaluation and experimental methodologies.
Experience with time-series analysis, anomaly detection, clustering, or predictive modelling is desirable. Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra, probability, and optimization.
Understanding of wireless communication concepts is a plus. A strong research mindset, curiosity to explore novel AI/ML approaches, and the ability to convert research ideas into working prototypes are highly valued.
