Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Head of Film Distribution with an established network of distributors, studios, streamers, exhibitors, sales agents, television networks, and international buyers.
The primary responsibility is to develop and execute distribution strategies for Lima Films’ independent feature films and actively secure distribution opportunities, licensing agreements, minimum guarantees (MGs), theatrical releases, and domestic and international sales.
The ideal candidate will have strong existing industry relationships and a proven ability to get independent films in front of decision-makers and convert those relationships into distribution opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute domestic and international distribution strategies for independent feature films.
Present and pitch films directly to distributors, studios, streamers, television networks, exhibitors, sales agents, and international buyers.
Identify the most appropriate distribution partners for each film based on genre, budget, cast, audience, marketability, and commercial potential.
Secure domestic and international distribution agreements.
Pursue theatrical distribution opportunities and build relationships with theatrical exhibitors.
Negotiate distribution agreements, licensing arrangements, minimum guarantees (MGs), revenue-sharing structures, and other distribution terms.
Pursue domestic and international territory sales.
Take films to major film markets and industry events, including Cannes, AFM, TIFF, Berlin, Sundance, and other relevant markets.
Build and manage an active pipeline of distributors, buyers, sales companies, exhibitors, and other distribution partners.
Coordinate with producers and filmmakers to prepare screeners, pitch decks, sales materials, cast packages, and other materials required for distribution.
Track submissions, offers, negotiations, and distribution discussions from initial contact through executed agreement.
Develop strategies designed to maximize the commercial value and reach of each film.
Maintain and continuously expand relationships with distributors, acquisition executives, sales companies, exhibitors, streamers, and international buyers.
Provide regular updates to the producing team regarding buyer interest, market activity, offers, negotiations, and distribution opportunities.
Ideal Candidate
Demonstrated experience actually securing distribution for independent films, not simply evaluating or recommending films.
Established relationships with distributors, studios, streamers, exhibitors, sales agents, television networks, and international buyers.
Proven ability to get independent films directly in front of relevant decision-makers.
Experience negotiating and closing distribution or licensing agreements.
Strong understanding of theatrical, TVOD, SVOD, AVOD, FAST, television, and international distribution.
Existing industry relationships capable of generating meaningful distribution opportunities.
Strong communication, pitching, negotiation, and deal-closing skills.
Experience working with independent feature films is strongly preferred.
Ability to independently develop distribution strategies and actively pursue opportunities on behalf of the company.
Most Important Requirement
The candidate should be able to demonstrate a verifiable track record of getting independent feature films distributed, licensed, theatrically released, or sold, along with established relationships with distributors, buyers, sales companies, exhibitors, and other key distribution decision-makers.
This is an active distribution role. We are looking for someone who can leverage their existing relationships and industry network to create real distribution opportunities and help move films from completion to the marketplace.
