We’re looking to recruit an experienced Machinery Safety Engineer to join our growing team, providing expert technical support to clients across machinery safety, CE/UKCA compliance and PUWER. You’ll conduct inspections, assessments and factory audits, deliver specialist training, and advise clients on UK and EU machinery legislation and standards. Alongside your technical responsibilities, you’ll help develop new services, support business development and contribute to the continued growth of our machinery capability.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting inspections, testing, and conformity assessments for CE and UKCA machinery compliance in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 (as amended), and applicable A-Type, B-Type, and C-Type harmonised/designated standards for a wide range of machinery, production lines, Annex IV / Annex I machinery, and other electrical and mechanical products.
Delivering technical training, seminars, and webinars to SGS colleagues, partners, and clients on machinery safety topics, including the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, PUWER, and associated harmonised standards, supporting capability development and business growth.
Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including assessment reports, inspection reports, certificates, and training materials, ensuring compliance with internal procedures, accreditation requirements, and client expectations.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in an industrial environment involving a broad range of machinery, automated systems, and associated equipment. You will also have practical experience using inspection, testing, and measurement equipment relevant to machinery safety assessments and conformity evaluations. Along with the following:
Sound knowledge of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, and The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 (as amended).
Working knowledge and practical application of key machinery safety standards, including:
EN ISO 12100 – Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction
EN 60204-1 – Safety of Machinery: Electrical Equipment of Machines
EN ISO 13849 Series – Safety-Related Parts of Control Systems
EN ISO 4413 – Hydraulic Fluid Power Systems
EN ISO 4414 – Pneumatic Fluid Power Systems
Relevant A-Type, B-Type, and C-Type harmonised/designated standards
Competence in carrying out electrical safety verification and measurements in accordance with EN 60204-1.
