Role Description
We are seeking an optics and photonics professional to support the design, assembly, testing, and development of optical systems. You will work with engineers and researchers to translate performance requirements into working instruments and experiments. The role combines technical analysis with careful laboratory work, from evaluating optical designs to aligning components and verifying system performance.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and development of optical systems, components, and experimental setups based on project requirements.
Perform optical modeling and analysis to assess image quality, light transmission, alignment sensitivity, and expected system performance.
Assemble and align lenses, mirrors, lasers, detectors, fibers, and other optical or optomechanical components.
Carry out precision measurements, calibration, and optical performance tests using appropriate laboratory instruments.
Compare test results with design predictions and investigate sources of error, instability, or performance loss.
Support the development of photonics experiments and evaluate new materials, devices, or measurement methods.
Work with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to integrate optical components into complete systems.
Prepare test plans, record experimental data, and document assembly procedures and technical findings.
Maintain optical laboratory equipment and follow established handling, cleanliness, and laser safety procedures.
Identify practical improvements to optical designs, alignment methods, test setups, and measurement reliability.
Present results to project teams and contribute to technical reports, design reviews, or research publications where appropriate.
Qualifications
Experience in optical engineering, precision optics assembly, photonics research, or a related technical field.
Strong understanding of optical principles, including imaging, light propagation, reflection, refraction, and measurement.
Hands-on experience assembling, aligning, testing, or troubleshooting optical systems in a laboratory setting.
Familiarity with optical design or simulation software is preferred for engineering and research responsibilities.
Experience using measurement tools such as interferometers, spectrometers, power meters, beam profilers, or imaging equipment is an advantage.
Ability to analyze experimental data and explain differences between measured and expected results.
Careful manual skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow precise technical procedures.
Strong documentation, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
A degree in optical engineering, photonics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred for engineering and research responsibilities. A relevant technical diploma or equivalent practical experience may be suitable for technician responsibilities.
