About the Role
YESTE Migration & Education Consulting International is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Student Counsellor – Study Abroad to join our growing team in Kochi.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert guidance to students aspiring to pursue higher education overseas. This role requires strong knowledge of international education systems, excellent counselling skills, effective student relationship management and the ability to guide applicants through the complete admission journey.
The Senior Student Counsellor will also be expected to contribute to business growth by managing enquiries, converting prospective students and supporting the achievement of individual and team targets.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct detailed one-to-one counselling sessions with students and parents to understand their academic background, career goals, financial considerations and preferred study destinations
• Provide accurate and personalised guidance on courses, universities, entry requirements, tuition fees, scholarships, intakes and career opportunities
• Recommend suitable academic pathways based on each student’s profile, interests, eligibility and long-term career objectives
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of major study destinations, including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Ireland and other relevant markets
• Handle student enquiries through walk-ins, telephone calls, email, social media and other communication channels
• Manage the complete student counselling cycle, from initial enquiry and profile assessment to application submission and enrolment
• Follow up consistently with prospective students and parents to ensure timely decision-making and application progression
• Convert qualified leads into successful student applications while maintaining a professional and student-focused approach
• Explain admission procedures, documentation requirements, application timelines and relevant policies clearly to students and parents
• Coordinate with university representatives, admissions teams, internal documentation staff and other stakeholders to ensure smooth application processing
• Review student profiles and identify potential challenges related to academic qualifications, study gaps, English-language proficiency, finances or visa eligibility
• Support students in preparing strong and accurate applications, including personal statements, statements of purpose, recommendation letters and other required documents
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions, applications, follow-ups and outcomes in the company’s CRM or internal systems
• Monitor application progress and provide regular updates to students and parents
• Participate in education fairs, university events, seminars, school visits and other promotional activities when required
• Contribute to team knowledge-sharing, counselling strategy development and process improvement initiatives
• Support junior counsellors through guidance, mentoring and sharing best practices
• Achieve individual counselling, application and conversion targets while contributing to overall branch and organisational objectives
• Ensure that all counselling and application-related communication is accurate, ethical, transparent and aligned with institutional and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a relevant qualification in education, business, international relations or a related field will be an advantage
• 3–5 years of proven experience in study-abroad counselling, overseas education consulting or a related international admissions role
• Demonstrated experience in student counselling, lead management, application processing and student conversion
• Strong understanding of international university admissions, course selection and study-abroad application procedures
• Practical knowledge of admission requirements, application timelines and documentation processes for major study destinations
• Experience working with student counselling platforms, CRM systems or application management tools will be preferred
Required Skills and Competencies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong counselling, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Ability to understand student needs and provide clear, accurate and ethical guidance
• Strong knowledge of international education trends, universities, courses and destination-specific requirements
• Excellent follow-up, negotiation and relationship-management abilities
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple student applications simultaneously
• Target-oriented, self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as part of a team
• Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines
• Professional attitude, patience, empathy and a student-first approach
• Ability to handle confidential student information responsibly
• Willingness to learn, adapt and stay updated with changes in international education and admission policies
