About Slate Brands
Slate Brands is an operator-led holding company building beauty and fragrance brands — in-house, with talent, and for partners. We develop and launch our own brands, we partner with talent on co-created lines, and we operate a distribution business across wholesale and retail channels. Our brands sell in national retail and direct to consumers.
We're a small, fast-moving team where individual work is visible and decisions happen quickly. We're not a corporate environment and we don't operate like one. People here own their lane and are trusted to run it.
About the Role
We're launching a live selling channel under our New Trade Ingredient and Distribution arm and looking for hosts who will be behind it.
Live commerce is one of the fastest-growing channels in beauty and fragrance, and it rewards three things above all else: consistency, personality, and knowing how to actually sell. We're starting on Whatnot, with plans to expand to TikTok and other platforms as they open up to us. The assortment will span both our own fragrance and beauty brands and select designer and prestige fragrance, meaning you'll be presenting everything from brands we've built ourselves to names people already recognize and want.
This is genuinely day one. There is no established show format, no existing audience, no playbook handed to you. You'll be building the channel alongside our ops, inventory, and marketing teams, testing formats, learning what converts, and shaping what this becomes. The person who does well here will be someone who finds that exciting rather than daunting.
The role is part-time to start, 15–20 hours per week, with a real path to grow. As the channel scales, so does this position, in hours, in compensation, and in scope. We expect the person in this seat to eventually help build and lead the team around them. The details below capture the general shape of the role, though specifics will evolve as the channel does.
What You'll Do
On Camera
Host 3–4 live shows per week, approximately one hour each, on a consistent published schedule
Present 20–30 products per show across auctions, buy-it-now listings, and giveaways
Tell the story behind each product (notes, occasion, who it's for) in language that lands with a general audience, not a fragrance forum
Run the room in real time: work the chat, name and acknowledge bidders, answer questions live, build urgency, and consistently ask viewers to follow before the show ends
Hold attention for a full hour without a script
Around the Show
Plan the run-of-show with our team — what leads, what anchors, when the best item drops
Film promo clips ahead of each live and recap clips after, for Instagram and TikTok
Review your own numbers after every show — viewers, conversion, sell-through, follower growth — and adjust format and pacing based on what you see
Work with ops and inventory on product prep, pricing inputs, and what should be in the lineup
Stay close to what's happening across live commerce and bring it back: new platforms, new formats, tactics other sellers are running that we should test
What We're Looking For
Magnetic on camera and quick on your feet. You can carry an hour or more of live video without a script and without losing energy in minute forty.
Self-managed. You'll be given product, a schedule, and a number. How you get there is yours. We will work together to help advise and run this on an ongoing basis.
A seller, not just a personality. Plenty of people are watchable. We need someone who cares whether it converted and will change what they're doing when it doesn't.
A team player. This channel runs on ops, inventory, fulfillment, and marketing all working together. You'll be in constant contact with that team, not operating alone.
Adaptable. This is a new division inside a growing company. Priorities will shift, formats will change, and platforms will get added. The role a year from now will not look identical to the role on day one.
Fluent in internet culture and platform behavior. You already watch lives. You know what a good one looks like and can articulate why.
Genuinely interested in fragrance and beauty — or fast enough to become genuinely knowledgeable quickly. You don't need to be an expert on day one, but you need to want to be.
Reliable. Consistency is the single biggest growth lever in this channel. Sellers who go live on a fixed schedule vastly outperform occasional ones. If the schedule is Tuesday at 7, you're live Tuesday at 7.
Nice to Have
Prior live selling experience on Whatnot, TikTok Shop, Instagram Live, QVC/HSN, or comparable
An existing audience or following of your own
Background in beauty, fragrance, or retail sales
Comfort with basic content capture and editing for social
Logistics and Compensation
Part-time, 15–20 hours per week to start, including some evenings and weekend afternoons
Queens / NYC metro area strongly preferred — hybrid, with flexible location during the pilot phase and a move to a dedicated space as the channel scales
Hourly rate plus performance bonus tied to show revenue
As the channel and the company grow, compensation grows with it — expanded bonus and commission structure, increased hours, and the opportunity to step into a larger leadership role and build the team beneath you
Work arrangement
