Cape is America’s privacy-first mobile carrier. Our mission is to be a force for good in global wireless. Cape was founded in 2022 by people who believe privacy is a fundamental right, not a luxury to be traded away. Our journey began when our founder recognized a critical vulnerability in our modern world: everyone relies on the same stagnant cellular infrastructure and legacy systems that track our every movement, monitor and profile our connections, and lose and sell our personal data.
Instead of accepting the status quo, we decided to fix it. National security professionals, journalists, parents, and everyone in between can stay connected and have privacy.
We didn’t just build a layer on top of old tech; we built America’s most private and secure mobile carrier from the ground up. By building our own network from scratch, we are able to design and build a suite of privacy and security features that no other carrier on the planet can offer.
Today, Cape provides our secure network to consumers, businesses, and government agencies alike. We closed our Series C in March 2026, and we are scaling rapidly, with the goal of giving people back control of their most personal information.

THE ROLE
We are looking for a Controller who can flex from building a team to developing processes to maintaining our books, all while supporting a high-velocity business day-to-day. You are an accounting wizard and also, at your core, you are a builder. You will make an immediate impact by leveraging your accounting expertise and passion for building to update our processes to meet our stage of growth. The ideal candidate is a systems-oriented thinker who thrives when they can strategize, own, fix, and execute all at the same time. This role reports to our Head of Internal Operations.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
- Build robust processes: Design and implement accounting best practices that maintain high business velocity while meeting GAAP standards
- Design Systems: Implement an ERP, in partnership with other key stakeholders, and provide leadership in managing the quote-to-cash process
- Make Cape Audit-ready: Prepare Cape for, and then lead Cape through, its first PCAOB audit
- Own Financial Operations: Own AR, AP, payroll, tax, and state compliance. Prepare and maintain accompanying audit-ready books and regular financial statements.
- Build a team: Hire and develop an accounting team ready to meet Cape’s next stage of growth.
EXPERIENCE
- CPA certification and understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience. At least 2 years of Big 4 experience. Operational accounting within a fast-paced, high-growth start up.
- Comfort creating and editing journal entries yourself in QBO, as well as implementing departmental accounting practices across our systems.
- Have successfully led an audit end to end
- Demonstrated ability to excel in dynamic environments. A self-starter with a history of identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance accuracy and timeliness of close
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively across business partners, customers, and vendors.
- Meticulous organization skills, with a proven track record managing large projects end to end and owning recurring processes
- (Bonus Points) Experience with NetSuite
COMPENSATION
We offer competitive compensation that is geo-adjusted based on your location, along with meaningful equity so you share in the value you help create. Salary range for this role in New York, NY or Arlington, VA is $230,000 - 270,000 depending on experience and interview performance.
