About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
The Digital Production Manager is responsible for the successful execution, quality control, and delivery of VitalStorm’s digital production work. This role serves as the internal owner of the production process, ensuring that work is clearly assigned, completed on time, reviewed against VitalStorm standards, properly approved, and safely launched.
The Digital Production Manager will oversee the work produced by VitalStorm’s outsourced developers, designers, and copywriters. While these team members are self-sufficient contractors and do not require traditional people management, the Digital Production Manager will ensure they receive clear work orders, requirements, assets, priorities, deadlines, and acceptance criteria. This role will track progress, remove blockers, coordinate revisions, route work to the appropriate strategist or stakeholder for review when necessary, and ensure completed work meets VitalStorm’s expectations before it is delivered or published.
The Digital Production Manager will also own production QA for websites, landing pages, website edits, creative assets, and other digital work. This includes coordinating and verifying items such as responsive functionality, links, forms, tracking, redirects, content accuracy, design consistency, launch readiness, DNS changes, and post-launch checks.
In addition, the Digital Production Manager will serve as VitalStorm’s primary operational liaison with its outsourced web hosting provider. This role will ensure the hosting partner is maintaining VitalStorm-managed websites according to appropriate security, reliability, and performance standards, including uptime monitoring, backups, malware scanning and remediation, SSL management, software and server security, vulnerability monitoring, disaster recovery preparedness, and timely response to hosting or security incidents.
The Digital Production Manager does not need to personally perform every technical, creative, or hosting function. Their responsibility is to ensure the appropriate partner or specialist is doing the work, that expectations are clearly defined, that the work is verified, and that nothing is considered complete until it meets VitalStorm’s standards.
Ideal Experience Background
The strongest candidate will likely have 4–8+ years of experience in a digital agency, web production, marketing operations, website project management, or a similar environment where multiple websites, clients, vendors, and deadlines are being managed simultaneously.
Ideal experience would include:
Managing website builds, website updates, landing pages, and other digital production projects from request through launch.
Working directly with outsourced or distributed developers, designers, copywriters, and other production partners.
Strong project-management experience, including requirements gathering, work orders, timelines, dependencies, approvals, revisions, and quality assurance.
Hands-on familiarity with WordPress and common page-building environments such as Elementor.
Enough HTML/CSS and web-development knowledge to intelligently communicate with developers, diagnose basic issues, and recognize when something does not appear to be functioning correctly.
Working knowledge of DNS, domain registrars, SSL certificates, website hosting, staging environments, migrations, redirects, backups, and website launches.
Familiarity with website security practices, malware monitoring, vulnerability management, uptime monitoring, backups, and incident escalation.
Experience testing websites across desktop and mobile devices and validating links, forms, navigation, conversion tracking, analytics, phone numbers, redirects, and other critical functionality.
Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, call tracking, form tracking, and related marketing technology is highly valuable.
Experience working inside a project-management platform such as Wrike, ClickUp, Asana, Monday.com, or Jira.
Agency experience is strongly preferred because this person must be comfortable moving between many clients, projects, priorities, and disciplines without losing attention to detail.
The ideal candidate does not need to be an elite developer, designer, copywriter, or SEO strategist. They need sufficient technical and digital production knowledge to effectively manage specialists, ask the right questions, recognize problems, enforce standards, and know when additional expertise is required.
The ideal Digital Production Manager is someone who naturally thinks: “What is supposed to happen? Who owns it? When is it due? How do we know it was done correctly? Who approved it? And how do we prevent something from being missed?”
They should be highly conscientious, organized, calm under pressure, comfortable holding outside partners accountable, and willing to personally verify that critical work has actually been completed.
They should not assume that because a task was marked complete, it was completed correctly.
